Interesting Legal Case Against Paddy Power

Saw yesterday this pretty interesting story on Sky News about a UK lady who's just won a legal case against PP.

Apparently she landed a site jackpot playing slots but it glitched & the message said she'd won bigger prize than she actually had - yet she's just won her court case claiming they owe what the screen displayed.

From what the judges comments are, it appears that she has successfully overturned the "in the event of error, all wins are void" rule. Casinos have long used this as a shield to hide behind for any technical errors, so if glitches can now be challenged then that potentially could be a quite a seismic shift in players favour.

I think this is a shockingly poor judgement; yes it's annoying when there is a cosmetic error, but she was payed the right amount for the RTP model she was playing. If any cosmetic glitches start to need to be paid out, it's going to screw over the entire industry and ultimately the punters.

She could maybe get a little extra in compo, but not 50x her win.

Speaking after the decision, Mrs Durber said: "As you can imagine, I'm so relieved and happy that the judge has confirmed I fairly and squarely won £1m from Paddy Power.

"But why couldn't Paddy Power pay up straight away instead of putting me through this legal torment?

"I will never bet with them ever again."
You get paid out over a million quid more than you should have been and can't even be magnanamous in your undeserved victory?

Silly old bat.

Yes, as much as it's a very nice treat for her personally, i was extremely surprised to see that she won the case - that's why i thought I'd post it, as it's definitely an unexpected judgement.

And it does potentially open the door to alot of other litigation - which you're right, ultimately gets paid for by the other customers.

Cosmetic error!  The very basic principles of online slots is visual presentation.  If you can't get that right you are doomed from the get go. Telling someone that they have won the "Monster Jackpot" and then trying to give them them the "Daily Jackpot" and saying it was all big mistake is laughable.  Laughably embarrassing that programming could go so bad for a once off hit.   The very basics of punting is trust.  Fuck ups are dealt with behind closed doors.
