Wish Upon A Jackpot Megaways

Released at the end of January 2020, Wish Upon a Jackpot Megaways is yet another dip into their BGT license acquired-bag-of-tricks. This is the first proper upgrade to the original Wish Upon a Jackpot since 2013. Mechanically the upgrade is a very different game, but it keeps the same aesthetics and the same cast of fairytale characters.
This fairytale themed slot is of medium/high volatility and uses the Megaways engine to power up to 117,649 win ways. This slot comes with 6 reels, each containing between 2 and 7 symbols a spin.
The game operates the cascading symbols mechanic with reaction wins in both the base game and the free spins round. This reel mechanic will be familiar to any Megaways™ fans, but for the newbies, there is an explanation a little later on in the review.
This reel mechanic combined with progressive win multipliers in the free spins will produce the biggest wins. However, Wish Upon a Jackpot Megaways also boasts three random features, so decent wins are possible at any time.
Wins of up to 50,000x the bet size are possible from this medium/high variance slot which comes with an RTP of 95.99%. You can play from €0.20 to €500 per spin (the max bet may vary depending on casino/jurisdiction).

Cascading Symbols with Reaction Wins
When a win lands, the symbols making up the win disappear and new symbols cascade into their place. A new win created by the cascade repeats the cycle which continues to repeat until no new win is created. These are known as ‘reaction wins’. Cascading symbols appear in both the base and bonus game.
Fairy Godmother Spin
The random appearance of the Fairy Godmother triggers a choice of three floating golden orbs, each containing one of the following reel modifiers.
Magic Beanstalk Stacked Wilds
Jack breezes past the screen dropping magic beans at the base of the reels. Those which take, sprout into fully wild reels with win multipliers of up to 7x.
Pigs Can Fly Wilds
The Three Little Pigs fly across the screen placing single wilds at random
Golden Arrow Mystery Win
A young Robin Hood appears at the bottom left of the reels firing multiple Golden Arrows upward, each adding to a mystery symbol meter. Up to 100 mystery symbols are added to the reels which convert into the same regular symbol at the end of the spin.
Fairy Godmother Free Spins
3 or more scatters award 10 free spins. Once again Fairy Godmother asks you to select one of the three golden orbs containing the 3 reel modifiers. Whichever you pick is likely to grace the reels several times during your free spins round.
Each reaction win during free spins increases the win multiplier by 1x. The win multiplier only goes up and does not reset at the end of a reaction win. Any scatters landing during free spins add an additional spin to your total.
Design & Symbols
As previously noted, Blueprint has kept the visuals very similar to the original which is no bad thing because the 2013 incarnation was a very good-looking slot, especially for 2013. The setting is once again a magical forest in fairytale land. Gnarled, ancient trees gently sway either side of the gameboard. A plethora of colourful flora and fauna lead out to meadow beyond which can be part-seen through the translucent reels. A pinkish hue has been added to the new version which adds a little warmth and glows to proceedings. During the free spins round the board pushes through into the meadow where a rainbow arcs across the screen. The soundtrack has been updated and no longer has an Irish lilt, and is a more frantic, scurrying affair.
The symbols have stayed true to the original. Low-value symbols are the playing card values 9-A. High-value symbols are a lyre a glass slipper on a purple cushion, a magical castle, and the game’s logo. The logo is the highest paying symbol, awarding 25x the bet size for 6 on adjacent reels. There are both single and stacked wilds, although the stacked wilds only come into play in conjunction with one of the game’s features. The scatter is once again the book of fairytales.
Our Thoughts on Wish Upon a Jackpot Megaways
Wish Upon a Jackpot Megaways is an entertaining slot with some nice visuals, plenty of features, and awesome potential. There is nothing particularly new about this slot, as its features have all been seen before in some Megaways guise or another. The slot I would say is most similar to this in terms of features/gameplay would be Red Tiger’s Golden Leprechaun Megaways. This slot comes with 3 similar reel modifiers, again granted randomly by a benevolent third party (in this case the Leprechaun). In terms of bang for your buck, this slot is a little more forgiving than many Megaways slots out there, but it will still bleed you dry if you don’t exercise a little caution. The 50,000x max win sounds like something out of a fairytale, but we are assured it is possible. However, I reckon you have more chance of buying some genuine magic beans at your local 7-11 than you do of hitting it on this slot. Overall, a decent enough addition for those who can’t get enough Megaways action, but it’s not going to compete with the big, well-established players already in this increasingly crowded market.
