Where to play
In Wings of Ra you will find two different bonus features available as well as special symbols. You have the Mystery Coin symbols which function in the same way as wild symbols, by substituting all other symbols on the reels. Then you have the Free Spins symbols, which of course are the symbols that will trigger the Free Spins feature of the game.
Mystery Coins feature
Wings of Ra features the Mystery Coins on the reels, when they appear they will spin and then finally reveal a randomly selected symbol. All of the Mystery Coins can end up being changed into the most valuable symbol of the game, which of course will reward you with bigger wins. Mystery Coins will also play a role in the Free Spins feature by filling the progress bar.
Free Spins feature
The scatter symbol of the game, which is the Free Spins symbol comes into play in this feature. The Free Spins feature will be triggered when 3 or more of them land anywhere on the reels. When this happens you will be rewarded with a total of 12 free spins. Should you end up triggering the feature by landing, even more, scatter symbols, then you will receive an additional 3 free spins for each extra scatter you land.
Should you for example land 4 scatters on the reels, you will receive 15 free spins or 21 free spins by landing 6 scatters. During the feature, all Mystery Coins that land on the reels will be filling up a progress bar where you will need 14 Mystery Coins in total to fill it up. Every time this progress bar is filled up, 1 of the low-value symbols on the reels will be converted into a Mystery Coin. By having this happen several times, you will, of course, get more Mystery Coins on the reels and be able to get higher wins.
Design and Symbols
Wings of Ra is not at all what we were expecting to see upon loading the slot. While we are used to seeing these Egyptian themed slots all mysterious and magical, this one is pretty clean and almost sterile looking. You will find yourself at the front of the entrance to what we suspect might be a temple of some sorts, with marble stairs leading up to the reel set and marble pillars along with an arch completed with golden accents framing the reels. On either side of the reel set there is a golden stand with a fire burning and a couple of green potted palms on either side, making it almost feel like we are in the lobby of a hotel of some sorts.
On the reels of the game you will find a total of 5 low-value symbols that are represented by card royals including 10, J, Q, K and A in different colours. There are also 4 different high-value symbols in place, this time various symbols and characters well-known from Egyptian themes. With the Eye of Ra, the falcon god Horus, Tutankhamen and finally a pharaoh, these complete the regular symbols of the game. The pharaoh is of course the symbol of highest value and will give you 30x your stake for 5 of a kind.
There are just 2 different special symbols in the game, which are of course the wild symbol and the scatter symbol. The wild is represented by a golden and bejewelled coin and will be filling up the progress bar during the Free Spins feature while also being able to change into the most valuable symbols of the game. The scatter symbol, on the other hand, is simply represented by a set of golden wings with the wording “Free Spins” over it. The scatter will trigger the Free Spins feature when 3 or more land anywhere on the reels.
Our Thoughts on Wings of Ra
To our big surprise, considering we are pretty done with the whole Egyptian-theme, Wings of Ra is a pretty decent slot. It looks completely different than what most other Egyptian slots do, which already is a big plus in our book. While it's not a big game-changer, we think they’re definitely will be plenty of players who appreciate this game either because it looks a little different than most others or because it can remind you a little of a classic slot.
We also enjoyed the fact that symbols can land anywhere on the reels in order to create wins as well as the two features of the game. While Red Tiger Gaming easily could have taken the features a little further or even added another one to make the whole experience a little more action-packed, we like what they have done with the two. In terms of potential payouts, these are pretty disappointing. With both highest values symbol only paying 300x your stake and the maximum win at a low of 3 166x your stake, there isn't much to hope for. All in all a pretty average slot.
