Fantasy-themed slots seem to be all the rage right now, maybe getting their inspiration from recent popular TV shows such as The Witcher. NetEnt has of course caught onto this ongoing trend and created Wilderland, their newest release. Here you can expect to see some great animations and graphics This game is all about fairies, elves and other magical creatures, a theme that we are sure will attract quite some players.
This slot will suit both newcomers as well as high rollers perfectly as bets can be set from as low as €0.20 per spin and up to a total of €1 000 per spin. The betting will be happening on a pretty standard reel set of 5x3 with 20 fixed pay lines in place. To get a win, you will need to get 3 of a kind or more on the reels. The RTP of the game is set at a 96.16% while having low to medium volatility.
Wilderland has both wild symbols, scatter symbols, a free spins feature, multipliers and a feature named Activation Zone. In other words, there is lots going on.
Design and Symbols
NetEnt seem to impress yet again with their graphics and design in this game. For no matter, if this is your kind of game or not, you simply can't deny how good it looks. It this fantasy-themed slot you will be taken into what seems to be an enchanted forest, which is exactly what the background is. You will be seeing fairies sitting on the side of the reels and throughout the game, you will see small twinkling lights in the background, perhaps some small fireflies or fairy dust floating around.
As for symbols in the game, there are some of the standard card suits which have cleverly been designed to look as different shaped leaves in autumnal colours. These are of course not numbers, but the card suits, meaning there are a total of four of them. As well as these, you will see fairies, foxes, W logos, a bow and arrow, pendants and rings, all which have been framed by Celtic design. The fairy is the symbol of highest value, paying 6x your stake for five of a kind.
If you are a big fan of wilds, then you will be happy to know there are five different wild symbols in Wilderland. There is the Walking Wild, Regular Wild, Expanding Walking Wild and x2 Walking Wild as well as the Scatter Walking Wild.
As you might have guessed from the slots name, wilds are what it's all about and seeing that there is a total of five different kinds that can show up, there is plenty going on in Wilderland.
This wild symbol will function in the same way as wilds function in most other slots. It can appear anywhere on the reels and will help you form new wins by replacing other symbols. It is shown as a W logo.
In the main game, the middle row will be highlighted and will be called the Activation Zone. Should two or more wilds land next to one another in this zone, this will cause the Forest Treasure to be activated and will turn into one of the four Walking Wild symbols.
The Walking Wilds symbols include the regular wild, the x2 wild, the scatter walking wild and an expanding walking wild. The latter is simply a stack of three wilds put together. Should this expanding walking wild disappear from reel 1 and there are no others on the reels, this can trigger the Magic Wild feature. This feature has the ability to make the stack appear again on the fifth reel.
Free spins feature
This slot also features a free spins bonus round which will be triggered when three or more scatter/wild symbols appear on the reels. When this feature starts, a walking wild symbol will be added to the fifth reel of the set. If more than three scatters were to trigger this feature, an extra Walking Wild or x2 Wilds will be added.
During this free spins feature, the Activation Zone will expand to cover all three rows of the game. This means that any wilds landing on the reels next to each other, will trigger the Forest Treasure feature.
Our Thoughts on Winderland
Our first impression of the slot was certainly that this is a good looking game, even though that isn't much of a surprise seeing it is a game from NetEnt. With a fantasy theme, sparkling fairies and other magical being, it is all you would expect from a slot like this. We also can't help ourselves from being impressed by the total of five different wilds in the game, even though some players might see it's slightly overdoing it. However being a low/medium volatility, this will still not end up being the kind of slot most players will go for.
