Tomb of Dead from Blueprint Gaming is the latest slot in their ‘Power 4 Slots’ series which started last year with Gorilla Gold Megaways. In this series, a regular slot is reproduced four times on the same screen so you’re playing 4 spins at the same time, with the chosen bet size replicated across all screens. Other than the implications of playing 4 spins at once, Tomb of Dead is a standard ‘Book of Ra’ clone. The real fun and the potentially huge winnings, however, come from the standard ‘Book’ bonus round with a difference.
Where to play
How to Win Big in Tomb of Dead – Free Spins
3 scatters triggers free spins with a randomly chosen expanding symbol. The chosen symbol not only expands to cover the entire reel on which it lands but it also pays winning combos anywhere along a payline. For example, in the base game, the minimum combo to win with Kings is 3 consecutive Kings on a payline starting at the leftmost reel. However, if Kings are the chosen symbol during free spins, 3 or more Kings on any combination of reels pays. Also, as the symbols have expanded, they pay on all 10 paylines.
Standard stuff so far. The difference here is that landing 3 or more scatters on just one of the 4 screens takes you to a wheel of fortune. The wheel spins with both an inner and outer wheel. Segments of the inner wheel show numbers of spins and the outer wheel show how many of the 4 screens they’ll play out on. Whichever two segments land in the capture zone at the base of the wheel dictates the number of spins and tables you’ll play at.
Landing 3 scatters during free spins adds 5 more spins and also unlocks a new screen for play (unless you are already playing on all 4 screens).
Landing 3 scatters on more than one screen during the base game involves playing multiple full free spins rounds. These are played in order one after the other. The expanding symbols resets after every individual bonus round.
Look and Feel of Tomb of Dead
There is nothing spectacular about the design or artwork on display here. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it leaves a lot to be desired. At least some of the Book clones try to incorporate HD graphics and decent animations. If Blueprint are just going for a bit of retro Ancient Egypt slot look then ok, whatever. To save the bother of explaining, it just looks like a slightly less good looking version of Book of Dead with its Indiana Jones type hero sat among the hieroglyphs and Egyptian Gods. The royals take the low symbols, and the usual Ancient Egypt symbols make up the premiums. As you’d expect, the Indiana Jones character pays most, a cool 1,000x the bet size for a full payline. As ever with Book clones, the scatter is also the wild which also pays 1,000x for a full payline. See the full paytable below
In terms of gameplay, I have to say I enjoyed it more than your average ‘Book’ clone, although caution is very much advised. This slot is volatile enough without you playing through your money four times as quickly as the price per spin applies to ALL tables, it isn’t split between the four.
The fun and value come when free spins are triggered. When they do, you might end up playing them on four screens even when you triggered them on just one. This takes the max win up to 20,000x where otherwise it would be 5,000x. The retriggers seem to come relatively frequently also which means that you may only trigger the spins on one screen but, due to retriggering activating a new screen, you end up playing on 2, 3, or even 4.
The Power 4 Slots mechanic really adds a new dimension to this otherwise bog standard Book clone and that alone makes it worth a spin or two.
