Where to play
Expanding Wild Respins
The game’s single feature is a simple but effective one and its one you have more than likely seen before. Wild symbols land on the middle reels only (reels 2, 3, and 4), and whenever a wild lands it expands to fill the entire reel. Any wins are recorded and a respin is then awarded with the expanded wild locked in place. Any wins from this spin are recorded and if a second expanding wild lands then there is second respin with both wild reels locked. Land the third expanding wild and a third and final respins is awarded. Three respins is the maximum up for grabs.
You may have realised by now that this game is practically a carbon copy of the NetEnt classic, Starburst. The payouts are the same, the paylines which pay both ways, and of course the respin feature. Even the name hints at Starburst, famous for its three multicoloured stars which make up the full reel wilds. There is one difference in the features, however. In Starburst if two wilds land on the same spin then they both expand and lock in place, whereas in Three Star Fortune only the leftmost wild will expand to cover the full reel and then be locked in place for the respin.
Design & Symbols
There’s nothing intrinsically bad or wrong about the design. It has bold colours, nice animations, and some decent artwork. It is, however, very generic. Think of a far east themed slot and you’re halfway there without even seeing it. The background depicts the standard greenery, small, ornate footbridges over streams, high waterfalls cascading from the mountains above, and pagoda like dwellings in the distance. Cherry blossom falls from trees directly above the gameboard. Tranquil music accompanies gameplay.
Low value symbols are red, blue, and pink Chinese writing. Medium value symbols are potion bottles and scrolls. High value symbols are pink fruits and Imperial gold sycee’s (golden ingots). The ingots are the highest paying symbols, awarding 25x the bet size for a line. As full lines pay double, the actual reward for landing a full line of ingots is 50x the bet size. The wilds which expand to fill the middle reels are represented by Gods of Wealth, Lu, Fu, and Shou. Incidentally, the low value Chinese word symbols spell out Lu, Fu, and Shou. All three gods have long beards and look very happy with themselves, as Gods of Wealth should.

Our Thoughts on Three Star Fortune
Three Star Fortune is a blatant rip-off of Starburst, it is very generic looking, and it doesn't have great potential. Having said that, it still manages to be a very playable game which isn't that surprising considering the success of Starburst. However, I don’t think it has much chance of replacing Starburst as successfully as, let’s say, Book of Dead did from Book of Ra. Starburst is visually and audibly more enchanting than Three Star Fortune and with the same features. That being said, having a clone of the world’s most popular game in your portfolio can’t be a bad thing. However, this game is no more than a portfolio filler and I hope to find more inspiration among the next 27 slots from Pragmatic Play.
