- Tip : See our NetEnt slots page for the complete list of their titles.
Despite the fact, NetEnt created a visually stunning slot, Rise of Maya does not offer players too many different features to get excited about.
In Rise of Maya, you will discover four different types of Wild symbols. These include;
- A Single Serpent
- 2x Expanding Serpent Wilds
- Serpent Stacks
All the Wild symbols substitute for any other symbol on the reels excluding the Scatter symbol.
Single Serpent Wild
The Single Serpent Wild can only appear on reels one or three.
Expanding Serpent Wild
The Expanding Serpent Wild symbols can land on any reel and can expand either upwards or downwards. When the symbol it expands it has the ability to cover the entire reel.
Serpent Stacks can only appear on the hot reels during the free spins round. Once a Serpent Stack has landed, it will then cover the entire reel.
Depending on the amount of Wild / Scatter symbols you land on the reels will determine how many free spins you will be granted.
- 3 Wild / Scatter symbols = 10 free spins
- 4 Wild / Scatter symbols = 15 free spins
- 5 Wild / Scatter symbols = 20 free spins
The reels which the Wild or Scatter symbols landed on to trigger the free spins round will become hot reels. This means any Serpent Stacks which land on the hot reels will expand to cover the entire ree.
You can also win additional free spins during the feature.
To the left of the reels, you will see a round button which says ‘Bonus Bet’. By activating the Bonus Bet you will be given a second chance.
This means your bet will be doubled and the Second Chance Scatter respin will be activated if two or more Scatter or Wild symbols land on the reels.
The reels which do not include a Wild or a Scatter symbol will respin for a chance to get another scatter to activate the free spins round.
Design and Symbols
NetEnt, of course, did not disappoint when it comes to the design and visual aspects of the slot game.
Although the game is fairly dark as it is set in a hold Mayan temple, the symbols are bright and colourful and the fire pits either side of the reels, keep everything lit.
The highest paying symbols represent the different Mayan masks, which may not be the prettiest but they are definitely eye-catching.
The lowest symbols are the highest suits you will find in a pack of cards and are carved out of different coloured stones. The lower paying symbols consist of 10, J, Q, K and A.
The soundtrack is very relaxing and makes good use of different instruments. The music adds to the effect of the slot and has a calm psychedelic feeling to it.
NetEnt is renowned for their innovative thought and video slot games, so it was nice to see them adventure away from the fairytale video slots to something more traditional and cultural.
Sadly, the slot does not offer anything out of the ordinary, although it is visually appealing and satisfying to play.
With that said, the features the game does host offer players a chance to snatch up 6,000x their stake, which is a rather appealing thought.
In my opinion, I think Rise of Maya could have been enhanced by reducing the number of Wild symbols and exchanging them for something else.
I like the fact the slot offers you an option to opt for a second chance by clicking the bonus bet, just make sure you check your bet value before clicking the Bonus Bet as it will double your bet per spin, for the duration of the BOnus Bet being activated.
