- Locking Wilds
- Rising Multiplier
The diamond wild is not only the highest paying symbol but the only one whose appearance guarantees a win, provided you’re willing to keep playing. A wild stays on the reel until it contributes to a winning combination. It substitutes for any symbol, except for a single cherry. A wild alongside a cherry or 2 cherries does pay like 2 or 3 cherries, but a single wild alone does not award a single cherry win. A second wild landing before a winning combo also locks, guaranteeing a win on the next spin.
A win multiplier landing on the reels is added to a multiplier meter above the gameboard. The multiplier symbol is then replaced by the symbol above or below the multiplier, depending on which way it decides to nudge. A winning spin is multiplied by the multiplier on the meter which then resets to 1x. A non-winning spin results in the multiplier value remaining, ready to be added to by subsequent multiplier symbols landing. The Rising Multiplier rises until a win lands or it reaches 10x where it remains until a win rolls in. Thereafter the meter resets to 1x and the process starts again. The top-paying spin of three diamond wilds with a 10x multiplier awards 5,000x the bet size.
Design & Symbols
Art deco stylings dictated much in the way of architecture, fashion, jewellery, cars, even household products during the interwar years. According to Wikipedia, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress. This all seems to fit the theme of the slot well, and the design certainly lives up to this description.
Gleaming gold trim frames the black reels of the gameboard. Directly above the reels the gold trim juts out either side at a very Art Deco 45 degrees and surrounds the black paytable. Above the paytable a gold and black arch house the game’s logo. In the background, equally angular shapes and designs help complete the look. One thing which seems out of place, however, is the funky wah-wah guitar-led soundtrack – perhaps a Charleston would have been more appropriate?
Low-value symbols are cherries, blue, green, and red bars. Mixed bars also count as a low win with the same value as 3 cherries (5x). High-value symbols are bells, red sevens, and the diamond wild. The wild is the highest paying symbol, awarding 500x the bet size for 3 in a row. As well as the regular symbols and the wild, the reels also contain multiplier values of 2x, 3x, and 5x.
Our Thoughts on Multiplier Riches
Multiplier Riches is destined to divide opinion. On the one hand, it does what it does very well, it looks good, it ticks the volatility box for the thrill-seekers, and it has great potential. The single and double cherry wins ensure you’re never left waiting too long for a win (always a bugbear of mine with retro slots), and the two features, although simple and straightforward, add an element of suspense and excitement.
If you like your slots to contain the latest innovations or a sackful of features, you are definitely NOT going to enjoy Multiplier Riches. I have to say it isn’t a slot I would choose to play, but then these kind of slots are never my bag. However, objectively speaking there’s no way I could call this a bad slot and I’m positive plenty of people will enjoy its classic look, simplicity, and ability to produce big wins.
