Released in September 2019 by Swedish developer Nolimit City, Manhattan Goes Wild takes its inspiration from prohibition-era New York City. The “Roaring ’20s” was a time of great prosperity throughout the western world, and particularly in the United States. Manhattan Goes Wild recreates the era’s sharp suits, flappers, speakeasy cocktails, flash cash, and society parties

This is a volatile game played on a 5x3 reel set with an RTP of 96.16%. A 243 ways-to-pay mechanic awards combinations of 3 or more identical symbols on adjacent starting from the leftmost reel. It comes with a max win of 2,025x the stake and delivers its biggest wins through a free spins feature.

You can play Manhattan Goes Wild at participating Casinos from €0.10 to €50 a spin.

Design & Symbols

Manhattan Goes Wild is designed in an art deco style, or rather the art deco buildings of the era form part of the backdrop. The Empire State Building stands to the left of the gameboard, with the Chrysler Building to the right. The gameboard covers much of the rest of the Manhattan Skyline in between these two iconic buildings. Art deco statues stand either side of the gameboard facing west and east, holding up the ‘roof’ of the gameboard. In truth, there is nothing much to the artwork here, it is fairly simplistic with static background imagery. Lounge music from the era accompanies the play.

Low value symbols are the standard royals 10-A in an art deco font. Medium value symbols are champagne bottles, sapphires, Lincoln Continentals, and microphones. High value symbols are Betty and Bugsy, Manhattan Goes Wild’s glamourous socialite couple. 5 adjacent Betty’s or Bugsy’s pay 5x the bet size. The wild is a golden ‘W’ on a black background. The scatter is a Manhattan cocktail.

Special Features

  • Betty Goes Wild
  • Wild Party Respin
  • Manhattan Freespins

Bugsy Goes Wild

Betty Goes Wild

Betty symbols turn into golden wilds in this randomly activated feature.

Wild Party Respin

Landing fully stacked Bugsy and Betty symbols on the same spin activates a Wild Part Respin. The stacked symbols turn into golden wilds and all other reels respin once.

Manhattan Freespins

3 or scatters awards 10 free spins. During free spins, the background scene turns from day to night time. During free spins 6 symbol meters appear, sprouting out of the sides of the gameboard in a fan shape, 3 on either side. Each meter represents one of the 6 higher paying symbols with Bugsy and Betty at the top. Whenever one of the higher value symbols lands, its corresponding meter increases by one. Fill a meter and that symbol turns wild for that spin and awards an extra free spin. 8 symbols must be collected to fill all meters except for Bugsy and Betty who require 10 spins, although filling the top two symbols meters awards 3 additional free spins.

Our Thoughts on Manhattan Goes Wild

Manhattan Goes Wild is far from my favourite Nolimit City slot, in fact, I found it tedious, uninspiring, and disappointing. Much more could have been made of the art-deco theme visually which I found bland and simplistic. None of the features stood out, and the payouts are low. The potential is, I suppose, ok at over 2,000x max win, but its nowhere near enough to make up for the tedium of the game as far as I’m concerned.

Nolimit City has some great games in their portfolio, and I would certainly recommend checking out Tombstone and Tractor Beam. I’m afraid I can’t say the same for Manhattan Goes Wild.
