How to win big in Invaders Megaways – Free Spins
4, 5, or 6 meteor scatters trigger 7, 10, or 15 free spins, respectively. 3, 4, 5, or 6 meteor scatters during the bonus round retriggers 4, 7, 10 or 15 free spins, respectively.
The high paying symbols appear in a bar above the reels during free spins. One of the high paying symbols from the bar above the reels is randomly chosen by the UFO selector to become the wild for that spin. During free spins, each of these symbols also contains its own wild reel modifier which comes into play whenever they are randomly selected by the UFO selector. Wilds are only active on reels 2, 3, 4, and 5 in this 6 reel slot.
Invaders Logo: All Invaders logo symbols turn wild and expand to fill their entire reels. They are also given a win multiplier equal to the number of symbols which were on the reel.
Scientist: All scientists turn wild with a win multiplier which doubles on every cascade until the end of the spin
Alien: All alien symbols turn wild. They also increase the height of the reel as well as the height of any adjacent reels. Reels increase to a maximum of 10 symbols high and a max total of 1,000,000 ways to win.
Cow: All cow symbols become 2x wilds. Ray Gun: All ray gun symbols become wilds and for each ray gun landing on the initial spin, another wild is added randomly to the reels.
- Up to 1,000,000 Ways to Win
- Cascades with Reaction Wins
- UFO Wild Selector
- The Unicow
For those unfamiliar with Megaways slots, the number of paylines, or in this case ‘Megaways’, changes every spin. During both the base and the bonus game the 6 reels contain up to 7 symbols, and that number changes on all reels every spin. The maximum number of Megaways in this set up occurs when all 6 reels land 7 symbols on the same spin. 3 or more identical symbols on adjacent reels from the leftmost reel constitute a winning combo. As such, ordinarily the highest number of Megaways is 7x7x7x7x7x7, or 117,649.
However, during the Unicow feature in the base game, and via the Alien Wild Modifier during free spins, all reels are capable of delivering 10 symbols per reel, giving a total of 1,000,000 ways to win
In Invaders Megaways, symbols cascade onto the reels rather than spin. After a win is added to your balance, the winning symbols are zapped away to be replaced by symbols cascading from above. A winning combo caused by this cascade is called a reaction win. Reaction wins continue until no new winning combo is formed, after which the spin ends. Cascades occur during the base and bonus games. We’ve already seen the work of the UFO Selector in the free spins section. In the base game, the UFO Selector is at work once again, turning a random symbol into the wild symbol for that game. All regular symbols are potential wilds during the base game, not just high value symbols you see during free spins. Furthermore, they are just single wilds without any modifiers. As in the free spins bonus round, wilds can only appear on reels 2, 3, 4, and 5.
The Unicow is the game’s final feature, and it occurs randomly (and extremely rarely) after a base game spin. A cow, which has presumably been trapped in the UFO’s rays, floats around the reels increasing the size of the reels from a maximum height of 7 symbols each to at least 7 and up to 10 symbols per reel for one spin (and any subsequent cascades from that spin)
Look and Feel of Invader Megaways
Once again WMS/SG Digital have done a fine job with the visuals, creating a suitably atmospheric, cartoon universe in which green, peace-sign wielding Aliens meet flying cows and made professors in a battle for the night sky above a sleepy rural farming town – most likely in the mid-west USA. Gameplay is accompanied by an intergalactic, electronic, pulsing soundtrack.
In terms of symbols, the lows are represented by the usual royal card values 9-A. The highs are ray guns, flying cows, aliens, mad professors, and the Invaders logo. The logo is the highest value symbol, paying 4x the bet size for 6 adjacent symbols. See below for the full paytable.
In terms of gameplay, Invaders Megaways is a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The change-up of random wilds every spin means you’re always in with a chance of a win, and if you manage to activate the Unicow, then there is a real opportunity for a very big win in the base game. However, activating the Unicow is easier said than done and it is likely to take several hundred spins before it shows its face. I managed to hit it once during the few hours playing the game, however, and it paid out over 700x, which wasn’t to be sneezed at.
The free spins round is also highly entertaining with the chance of a big win on every single spin as the wild modifiers come in to play.
One thing to note is that the payouts are a little on the small size. In fact, the highest paying symbol awards just 4x the bet size for a full row. However, with multiple wilds being churned out every spin, there had to be a trade off somewhere, and it came in the relatively low symbol wins.
As Megaways slots go, Invaders is certainly one of the more quirky and innovative ones to appear of late. I am more than happy to recommend this slot for our readers, it’s an extra-terrestrial treat!
