Grizzly Gold Slot
As much as we enjoy Blueprint’s extensive selection of Megaways slots, it’s good to see they still haven’t forgotten how to produce a slot with a (slightly) more traditional mechanic. Enter Grizzly Gold, a 5x4 reel, 1024 ways-to-pay slot with an RTP of 96% which was released in December 2018.
Grizzly Gold has a North American wildlife and wilderness theme and is a highly volatile affair which can pay out up to 10,000x the bet size (up to a maximum of €250,000).
A big percentage of that RTP comes from the single special feature – the Grizzly Grizzly Gold Bonus which incorporates free spins, wild multipliers, and unlimited re-triggers.
For all you real gamblers out there, this game also comes with a buy-a-bonus button, called the “Grizzly Bet”.
You can play Grizzly Gold at participating casinos from €0.20 to €100 per spin
Design and Symbols
There’s some nice artwork on display here. The backdrop depicts a tranquil, late autumnal forest scene with bare branches dappled in the orange glow of the setting sun. The game board takes centre stage with the reels encased in a polished wood frame.
The soundtrack completes the rather genteel surrounds with a zen-like combo of strings and piano runs. Only the slightly eerie occasional howl in the distance points at something a little more sinister.
The low value symbols are represented by the standard 9-A Royals. The remainder of the symbols each depict a North American animal. In order of value from low to high they are; the owl, the lynx, the moose, the wolf, and the Grizzly Bear.
Good old Grizzly is the highest paying, with 5 adjacent symbols worth 6.25x the stake. The wild is a golden bear paw print, and the scatter is the Grizzly bear with BONUS across the centre.
Grizzly Gold only comes with one special feature.
Grizzly Gold Bonus
Grizzly Gold only comes with one special feature, the ‘Grizzly Gold Bonus’, a free spins round with wild multipliers.
As previously mentioned, you can trigger free spins by landing 3 or more scatter symbols or by use of the Grizzly Bet buy-a-bonus button. The former may take a fair few spins as this is a highly volatile game, and the latter will set you back 40x your stake.
Spinning your way into the bonus round will earn you 8, 15, or 20 free spins depending on whether you landed 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols. However, endless free spins are accessible if you manager to keep landing scatters throughout the round. During the bonus round 2, 3, 4, or 5 scatters award an additional 5, 8, 15, or 20 free spins.
Furthermore, during free spins wild bear paws may come with multipliers of 2x or 3x. If more than one multiplier lands on the same spin then they will multiply together to a maximum of 27x.
Our Thoughts on Grizzly Gold
Unlike either the Megaways slots or many of Blueprint’s other slots which carry a multitude of involved features (think Ted, Goonies, Mars Attacks! Etc), Grizzly Gold is about as simple a slot as you’re likely to come across these days. With just one feature even the most novice slots player will get the hang of this one in no time.
Whether that’s a good thing or not boils down to what you expect or want out of a slot. If you’re looking for gimmicks or a slot which mirrors a video game then no doubt you’ll be disappointed. If you’re looking for a no-nonsense slot with great potential then Grizzly Gold may just be your thing. Equally, high variance slot fans could find this a nice little slot to add to their portfolio.
All in all Grizzly Gold is certainly nothing out of the ordinary but I think a necessary and worthy additional to Blueprint’s roster of titles. After all, variety is the spice of life and for every complicated and feature filled slot, it’s good to have a Grizzly Gold to maintain a balance.
