How to Win Big in Golden Tsar – Free Spins
3 or more Golden Tsar Egg scatters trigger the free spins bonus round. 3 spins are awarded for each scatter, up to a maximum of 18 spins.
The free spins round mirrors that of Book of Ra and its many, many clones insofar as the predominant advantage over the base game is that one symbol is chosen at random before the spins begin which expands to fill the entire reel whenever a win is possible. Furthermore, expanding symbols count towards a winning combo wherever they are on the reels. For example, expanding symbols landing on reels 2, 3, and 5 all expand and wins of 3 of a kind are counted for any win lines which pass through the 3 expanded symbols, unlike regular sized symbols which have to land on consecutive reels from the leftmost reel to count.
Throughout free spins, the Royal Expand feature from the base game (more on this below) is also in play, meaning that it is possible to have more than one expanding symbol in play during the same spin. As only 2 or more Royal symbols are required for a win, you ought to see a reasonable return during free spins.
- Royal Expand
During both the base and bonus games, 4 Royal symbol meters are visible above the reels. Each circular meter contains an image of one of the high paying royal symbols. Each time two or more of these symbols land on a pay line, the border around the circumference of the circular (the meter) fills a little more. Filling a meter causes any examples of that symbol currently on the board to expand to fill the reels or a guaranteed win. Individual meters do not reset until they are full. It is possible for more than one meter to fill on the same spin. Expanded symbols only expand for the spin on which their meter is full.
Look and Feel of Golden Tsar
Golden Tsar is set in an opulent room within a Russian royal palace with plenty of gold, diamonds, chandeliers, and candelabras. There isn’t much else going on design wise, with the 6x4 gameboard taking up most of the game space. The symbols are a mixture of ornate looking royal playing card lettering (or at least I’m assuming that’s what they are as they appear to be in some kind of Eastern European Cyrillic language), and the 4 royals (the prince, princess, tsarina, and the tsar). The Tsar is the most valuable, with a full payline awarding 25x the stake.
See below for all symbols and their payouts (payouts given in coins so divide by 30 for the bet multiplier).
To be honest, this game really wasn’t for me. Yes, it’s good to have Book clones which mix the formula up a little, but there just isn’t enough going on, or enough potential here to keep it fresh. 30 paylines on a 6x4 slot is a little tedious and the wins aren’t great. Also, considering this is a highly volatile slot, a max win < 2,000x won't please too many high variance players. Even the design and graphics are a little dated and stuffy.
If you want an innovative take on the Book of Ra set-up, I’d advise you give this a miss and take a look at Nolimit City’s superb Book of Shadow instead.
