Gold is a Big Time Gaming slot releases from June 2014 and the precious metal is well represented throughout the game.
Gold is a 5x3 reel slot with medium variance, 20 pay lines and an RTP of 95.03%. The game has a lucrative wild symbol (more of which later) and offers a generous free spins round. With both adjustable coin and line bets one can play from as little as €0.01 up to €50 a spin.
Design and Symbols
As I hinted at a little earlier Gold is the name, the theme, and the design of this slot. The game board sits on a plain black background and is full of bling. Surrounding the board are golden bricks next to hundreds of small, flashing golden bulbs either side of the reel set.
Add to that plenty of golden symbols and the background track being Spandau Ballet’s classic hit ‘Gold’ and you kind of get the idea that this slot is all about, well, Gold!
The lower value symbols are the standard 9, 10, J, Q, K, and A (all in Gold of course). Next up are gold rings, credit cards, watches, cars, and bar symbols. Of the regular symbols the bars and cars are the best, paying 750 coins for 5 on a pay line. The scatter is a golden disc, and the wild is a golden briefcase , the game’s real ‘golden goose’.
Perhaps it’s not exactly a ‘special feature’ as such but in Gold the wild provides a little more bang for your buck that the average wild in the base game, and there is also a potentially lucrative free spin game to enjoy.
The wild in this game is worthy of special mention for two reasons. Firstly it automatically doubles any win of which it is part, which is a nice touch. Secondly it is the biggest winning symbol on the board. The wild pays 10,000x the line bet for 5 of a kind– 13x bigger than the next biggest symbol.
Land 3 or more scatter symbols and you’re off to the bonus round with 15 free spins. During free spins every win is subject to a 3x multiplier (except if you land 5 wilds for the 10,000 coin pay day) which really adds to their appeal. Free spins will retrigger if you manage to land another three scatter symbols during your spins.
In fact they can retrigger up to a maximum of 180 spins. If you get on a roll with the free spins and retriggers then you can be sure of a decent pay-off.
Our Thoughts on Gold
Gold may not be the most innovative slot in the world but personally I enjoyed it for a variety of reasons. Firstly, I love the Spandau Ballet song so I was already predisposed to enjoy playing the game! That aside the game itself was worthy of merit with wins landing with enough regularity to keep the base game entertaining on its own, especially when the wild joins the fray to double the winnings.
Also, I found the free spins were suitably entertaining and the 3x multiplier certainly raised the excitement levels. I’d imagine it was a bit of a fluke but I also managed to retrigger the free spins three times on my first attempt which resulted in a pretty decent win!
Overall I would give Gold a thumbs up for playability although it could do with a slightly better RTP to remain competitive, and as you are able to alter how many lines you play as well as coins and the price per coin it can be a little difficult to work out exactly how much you are likely to win just from looking at the pay table.
