Ecuador Gold Slot
With their Ecuador Gold slot, Elk Studios combine some of the most popular video slot-features and themes of the day in their most ambitious release to date.
Set in an Ecuadorian rain forest, Ecuador Gold charts the progress of intrepid explorer Kane as he makes his way to the legendary Temple of Luck in search of Inca gold and riches. Avalanche reels, an expanding reel set, and free spins with sticky wilds hold the key to riches in this game.
This adventure-themed slot has a 6x4 – 6x8 reel set offering between 4,096 and a staggering 262,144 ways to win. It’s of medium to high variance with an RTP of 96.1% and can be played from €0.20 to €100 per spin
Design and Symbols
Ecuador Gold is visually impressive, from the animated video intro to the artwork and graphics within the game itself. Set in the Temple of Luck, the game board is framed on either side by large pillars inscribed with Aztec symbols and hieroglyphs.
Gold coins litter the temple floor either side of the pillars, while the walls are decorated with golden artefacts. The symbols drop in blocks of stone to a rhythmic tribal beat.
The four lowest value symbols are stone carved shapes (green, purple, blue and orange). Four medium value symbols are represented by stone carvings of crocodiles, birds, snakes, and leopards.
The four highest value symbols are three golden face masks and Kane, the game’s debonair explorer hero. Kane is the highest paying of all, with 6 across the reels worth 3x the bet size.
The wild is in the shape of a golden star with an emerald centre and the scatter is of s flight of steps leading up to the Temple of Luck.
The Avalanche mechanics will be familiar to slot aficionados. Whenever a winning combination lands all winning symbols explode and are replaced by the symbol directly above them on the reel.
New symbols drop from above to replace dropped or exploded symbols from the top row. The avalanche mechanic continues to drop new symbols as long as a new win is created.
Unlike other games, however, every time a win occurs via the avalanche mechanic an entirely new row is added (to a maximum of 8 rows high), therefore increasing the ways to win exponentially.
When the run of avalanche wins comes to an end the board will revert back to a 6x4 reel set.
Check out how the additional rows increase the ways to win:
- 4 rows: 4,096 ways to win
- 5 rows: 15,625 ways to win
- 6 rows: 46,656 ways to win
- 7 rows: 117,649 ways to win
- 8 rows: 262,144 ways to win
Scattered among the regular size symbols Ecuador Gold will also drop in the occasional ‘Epic Symbol’. Epic Symbols can vary in size from 2x2 blocks up to 4x4 blocks. A bigger symbol clears away smaller symbols on its way downwards.
A Ghosting Wild might appear on reels 3-6. It will move randomly from block to block, leaving a wild in the place of every space it inhabits.
Land 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters to receive 10, 15, 20, or 25 free drops (free spins). Free drops have a couple of significant advantages over regular drops. As with standard play, you begin with a 6x4 reel set and can work your way up to 8x4 via consecutive avalanche wins.
However, during free drops play benefits from what is called the “Safety Level”. The safety level, which starts at 4 rows, will increase one row for every new free drop initiated which results in a win.
Each new drop will begin at the current safety level. Lucky players might hit a good run of avalanche wins early on and as a result, play many of their free drops with 262,144 ways to win.
Wilds which land during free drops will remain on the board throughout. However, they will drop if symbols beneath them explode and therefore will often end up together at the base of the board.
Our Thoughts on Equador Gold
We have to give full marks to Elk Studios for producing a slot that ticks pretty much all the boxes. Ecuador Gold is not only a handsome looking slot but also dazzles with its variety of features, smooth gameplay, and decent potential.
Sure, it borrows ideas from some of the most popular games of the last few years but Elk has still managed to make this game their own.
The free drop bonus round is hugely immersive and almost always delivers a decent win; even the base game is ripe with opportunities for some great avalanche runs. All in all Elk Studios have really delivered here and I can’t wait to play it for real money when it comes out on 19th February.
