Day of Dead, a brand new slot from Pragmatic Play just in time to get you in the mood for Halloween. Of course, this as such has nothing to do with Halloween as we know it but is based on the Mexican Day of the Dead celebration, also known as “Dia de los Muertos” taking place every year in November. This is a celebration where you celebrate and remember loved ones who have passed away and some even say that these very souls visit family members right here on earth during the celebrations. This isn't the first time we are seeing the Day of the Dead theme in slots, which leaves us wondering what Pragmatic Play have done to add a little twist this time.

When checking out the special features available in the game, we found that there is a total of 3 special features available. Some might find this number a little low and some might find it just right. Central to the action is the walking wilds which are active in both the main game and during the Re-Spin feature. You also have a Free Re-Spins feature as well as a Feature Buy option.

How to win big in Day of Dead – Free Re-Spin feature

Instead of a Free Spins feature in the game, you will have a Free Re-Spin feature and this is where you will be landing the bigger wins of the slot. Trigger the feature by landing scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5 during a spin. Above the reels, you will also be seeing a meter where you are able to collect special walking wild symbols. You will start off the round with 2 walking wilds. One of them will fall onto the reels for the first re-spin and will then move across the screen towards the 1st reel. Every time a collectable wild land during this round, it will be collected in the meter found above the reels.

All collected wilds are able to drop onto the reels at random or when there are no more expanded wilds on the reels. Every time a new gravestone wild lands it will also increase the value of the multiplier. You will be able to keep an eye on the value of the multiplier through the meter on the left side of the reels. The re-spins will continue until there are no more walking wilds left on the reels.

Special Features

  • Walking Wild Re-Spins
  • Feature Buy

The gravestone represents the expanding wild symbol. Every time one of these symbols land on the reels, it will expand and turn the entire reel wild. This will at the same time trigger the Walking Wild Re-spin feature and you will be rewarded with a re-spin while the expanded wild will walk one reel to the left. These re-spins will continue until the walking wild is dropped off the screen while you are able to land more walking wilds during a re-spin.

In addition to the two main special features, you also have a Feature Buy option available in the game allowing you to buy your way into the Re-Spin Bonus. This will cost you 100x your total stake.

Look and Feel of Day of Dead

Day of Dead reels during the main game

With a very obvious Day of the Dead theme to this slot, you should be expecting all things colourful with a touch of creepy. In the background you will be seeing what we must assume is a graveyard at night, complete with a dimly lit building, creepy branches, skulls and candles. The reel set itself seems to have been placed inside a stone building along with some decorations at each bottom corner.

Day of Dead paytable

The symbols on the reels include the standard hearts, diamonds, club and spades as the low-value symbols, however, they have been designed to fit in with the theme of the game, so they are almost unnoticeable. The other symbols are symbolic of the celebrations, showing maracas, drums, a guitar, a dog and 3 different characters, all dressed up for the occasion.
