- Win up to 12,500x
- Megaways Book Clone
- Highly Volatile
Skywind Games have been steadily increasing their online slot portfolio over the last 9 years, with 280 titles to choose from. There are no mega-hits in that line-up, by their slots continue to do steady business. A few years into their tenure as the most popular slots on the block, Skywind have just released their first-ever Megaways slot with a license from Big Time Gaming. In line with their steady but unspectacular assault on the online slots world, Book of Gems Megaways takes one of the safest themes in the “Book”, an Ancient Egypt slot cloning the ever-popular Book of Ra. Well, technically, with their India Jones-Esque hero, they’re cloning Play’n GO’s Book of Dead, itself a clone of Book of Ra.

How to win big in Book of Gems Megaways – Free Spins
3 scatters on reels 2, 3, and 4 trigger 10 free spins. One of the game’s regular symbols is selected at random to become a special expanding symbol for the duration of the bonus round. The chosen symbol expands to fill the reel if it appears on 3 or more of them. Furthermore, they pay anywhere along the paylines as though they were on adjacent reels from the leftmost reel. For example, expanded symbols on reels, 2, 3, and 5 would pay as if they were on reels 1, 2, and 3.
3 scatters during free spins adds a further 10 spins to your total, and there are no limits to the number of retriggers possible. Unlike some Book clones, there is no new expanding symbol with the retrigger, it remains consistent for the round’s duration.
- Megaways up to 3,125 Ways to Win
- Buy in Feature
For those unfamiliar with Megaways slots, the number of paylines, or in this case ‘Megaways’, changes every spin. In Book of Gems, all reels contain 2-5 symbols, and the number of symbols on each reel changes every spin. The maximum number of Megaways occurs when all 5 reels land their maximum number of symbols. As winning combinations are formed by 3 or more identical symbols on any adjacent reels from the leftmost reel, the highest number of Megaways in this instance is 5x5x5x5x5, or 3,125.
Anyone who knows anything about ‘Book’ clones will know that this game is ALL about the free spins feature and those expanding symbols. Therefore, it makes sense that this game comes with a bonus by feature. The ‘Buy in Feature’ costs 70x the bet size and gives you the right to a guaranteed free spins round.
Look and Feel of Book of Gems Megaways
There wasn’t too much time wasted designing the Book of Gems, it’s all very basic Ancient Egypt fare. Set in the desert, a couple of pyramids in background, and a reel set framed in gold. The black reels contain the usual symbol suspects. 10-A royals for the lows and golden rings, scarabs, and pyramids for the highs. The India Jones hero, of course, is the highest paying symbol, with a full payline worth 4x the bet. See the full paytable below.
As is to be expected, the book scatter is also the game’s wild.
Book of Gems Megaways is a tough one to judge. To be fair, if you enjoy highly volatile ‘book’ and Megaways slots then presumably you’re in for a treat. However, as someone who isn’t so keen on ‘book’ slots but loves Megaways, it left a lot to be desired. My favourite Megaways slots tend to have cascading symbols, reaction wins, and increasing win multipliers and this game has none. I’d imagine it would prove quite tricky to model the maths to make that workable, but without it, it just felt like a typical book game to me. Still, I think I have to sit on the fence here, because the theme, the features, and the mechanic of this game should, by rights, be a winning formula, and it is probably a safe bet for Skywind’s first Megaways slot.
