Where to play
- Free Spins
- Golden Re-Spins
3 scatters awards 5 free spins. During free spins, the middle three reels become one ‘Big Symbol’ acting as 9 matching symbols for all symbols except the scatter, where it still acts as one. 3 scatters retriggers the round with 5 more free spins.
6 or more gold coins landing trigger Golden Re-Spins. All non-coin symbols are removed from the board and 3 re-spins are awarded. The new reels only contain coins and blanks. Coin values range from 1x to 100x. Coins can also reveal ‘MINI’ or ‘MEGA’ pertaining to the jackpots shown above the reels. When a coin (or coins) land, re-spins are reset to 3. Spinning 3 times without revealing a new coin ends the Golden Re-Spins round. 3 ‘MINI’ or ‘MEGA’ symbols award the corresponding jackpots (the MINI jackpot is 30x, MEGA is 100x). Filling the 15 symbol spaces with coins awards the MAXI jackpot of 1,000x, plus the combined value of the 15 coins. As the top coin value is 100x, the maximum win possible is 2,500x.
Design & Symbols
The artwork on display here is competent if unoriginal. The setting is a static image of a packed gladiatorial arena with a sandy battleground. The gameboard is a gold framed with white reels, and with three purple jackpot meters running horizontally above the reels showing the three-set jackpots (mini, mega, and maxi). The soundtrack is a typically heroic anthem of marching drum-beats with urgent strings and stirring performance from the horn section.
Low value symbols are the standard playing card values J-A. High value symbols are warriors in orange, green, blue, and red attire. The hero in red, who also sports a golden helmet and trident in the highest paying, with 5 on a payline awarding 20x the bet size. The wild is the Emperor, who also commands 20x the bet size for a full payline. The scatter is the Coliseum, which only appears on reels 1, 3, and 5. There are also golden coin symbols which appear with cash values inscribed on their face.
Our Thoughts on Arena of Gold
Unfortunately, our hopes for an original game from All41Studios here were in vain. Anyone who has been around the slots scene for any length of time will have seen the Arena of Gold’s two features plenty of times before. The game is most similar, however, to Pragmatic Play’s Wolf Gold (and its recent Pragmatic clone, Money Mouse). All three slots are medium variance slots with 25 paylines, they all have a scatter triggered free spins round with 5 free spins as well as a re-spins round with the same prize on offer. I suppose Arena of Gold has a very slightly higher RTP (96.20% compared to 96.01%), but other than that it is just another clone.
It's not a bad game to play, and if you like Wolf Gold, then the chances are you’ll enjoy Arena of Gold. That being said, All41Studio could do with a little more innovation and a little less cloning to really make a name for themselves.
