Cascading Symbols with Reaction Cluster Wins

Symbols forming a winning cluster disappear after the win and are replaced by symbols cascading from directly above. Cascading symbols which form new cluster wins also disappear to be replaced by symbols from above. A non-winning drop ends the spin.

Reel Modifiers

The four reel modifiers are triggered by filling the four meters directly above the reels. A meter fills each time a winning cluster of corresponding high value symbol lands. When filled, the matching Superhero appears in front of the board before launching their unique superpower on the reels.

  • Quake: Filling the green meter triggers Quake who removes all low value symbols from the board, allowing new symbols to fall in their place
  • Strike: Filling the blue bar activates Strike who fires a random number of glowing wilds onto the grid
  • Burst: A full red bar sends Burst onto the screen to clone random symbols on the grid
  • Beam: A full yellow meter brings forth Beam to create a win multiplier between 2x – 10x. The multiplier is applied to the entire series of cluster wins.

As the action plays out it is not uncommon for more than one of the Superheroes to be activated in the same series of cluster wins. Furthermore, all four modifiers activating within the same series of cluster wins triggers another feature.

Superhero Mode

4Squad Superhero Mode

Superhero Mode sees a free spin activate with all four reel modifiers in play at the same time. This is where the wins can get relatively juicy.

Design & Symbols

Red Tiger has done a great job of bringing this Superhero slot to life on screen with some superb artwork. The scene is pretty much what you expect from this type of game, set at night in the centre of a Metropolis-type city full of skyscraper offices with plenty of smoked glass and steel. The American style street sign visible to the left of the gameboard reads “Winner Boulevard”.

The grid is a brightly lit, colourful affair framed in chrome. Above the centre of the gameboard is the 4Squad logo, with two Superheroes pictures in circular frames either side. The circular frames double as progress meters for each Superhero. The backing music is urgent and tense, as you’d expect to watch 4 Superheroes waiting to take on an enemy.

Red Tiger must be congratulated on the thought that’s gone into their Superheroes. It’s tough to come up with a non-branded Superhero which you can instantly relate to, but Quake, Strike, Beam, and Burst are all easily identifiable, superbly crafted, and each one is unique. You get to see them in their full splendour whenever one is released to do their thing when triggered.

4squad symbols

Both sets of symbols, high and low, are coloured green, blue, red, and yellow. The low value symbols are playing card suits, clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades. High value symbols are the Superheroes, Quake, Strike, Beam, and Burst. The highest value symbol is the 4Squad emblem of a golden gloved fist in a multicoloured circle. The fist pays 50x the bet size for clusters of 20 or more.

Our Thoughts on 4Squad

Red Tiger has done an incredibly good job with 4Squad. It looks great, the Superheroes are well imagined, and the game is super fun to play. It flows well and has a hit rate guaranteed to bring players consistent and regular action.

The one drawback would appear to be the value of the wins and the overall potential. A top win of 1,279x is on the low-side for a mid-variance slot. The most valuable cluster win (the fist) pays a healthy 50x for clusters of 20+, but the next highest value symbol (Beam) only pays 9x for 20+ clusters. Compare this to most cluster pays slots and you’ll see the difference is quite substantial.
