UK FOBT Consultation

Interesting news that's been bubbling away for the last few years in the Uk. Fixed Odds Betting Terminals could be going down to £2 per spin from the current Max of £100. Arguments will likely be formed by UK betting shops that this pails into insignificance when you compare to what can be done online - but at such an horrendous RTP is it the true Crack Cocaine of gambling? See the article here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-41814465

Here is a useless fact.  Roulette on a FOBT is supposedly more fair than live roulette due to the fact that there is no physical bias as a result of any defect to the wheel.

I'm all for restrictions on FOBT machines but I'd like to see online gambling similarly reigned in.  Online gambling matches the FOBTs for number of problem gamblers but has a significantly higher number of "at risk" customers meaning it will likely soon become the number two source of problem gambling in the UK (spread betting is number 1).  Online gambling also generates losses 2.5 x greater than FOBTs (4.5 billion vs 1.8 billion).

So yeah let's sort out the FOBT problems....but lets also cast our eye on the even bigger elephant in the room.

I guess “fairness” is a bit subjective. The £500 max cap on FOBT means that a lucky run is limited in return to implied exposure. Online you would be able to gain a higher return.

Any high street slot rtp is woeful compared to online - but take your point on roulette.

Agree that online is a big issue for many BUT when you look at the effects to the poorer sectors of society it is still high street which puts the nail in the coffin.

Mixed feelings about it.

Yes, these machines need fixing but anytime Government interferes they always take it to the extreme.

You know what is going to happen next, they will be looking at online gambling where you can do £2,000 spins (White Rabbit!!) on a slot. They may will limit the amount we can bet or piss about with the interval bets can be placed (no more super quick spins on Flame Busters). All it takes is a few stories in the press and we are all going to be screwed.

This is an email I sent to the gambling commission,

I would like a response with regards to the profits that have been posted up until September 2016.

You stated that gambling firms made 13.8 billion gbp profit in this Financial year. A large part of this profit was due to fixed odds betting terminals, 1.8 billion gbp for the same year. This is roughly equates to 13% of the market share.

After reading a few articles and visiting a few betting shops, The odds on these terminals are stated at 97%. So by this logic close to 100 billion gbp has been staked on these terminals throughout that financial year.

The reason for my email is, that figure is almost 5% of our gdp. Now I don't think I am rain man or anything but I find it extremely hard to believe that almost 270 million gbp is staked on these machines everyday for 365 days. There are close to 9000 betting shops in the UK, If every shop had 4 of these terminals, every terminal would of staked just over 30000 gbp every day for 365 days.

I have seen various articles stating that these machines are rigged and others stating they are randomly generated numbers.

The first statement seems far more believable when you look at these figures.

If this is true I can not believe a government agency as big as yourselves has not looked into this. I believe they are stealing and very much deserve to be put before the courts.

You forgot to factor in the money laundering that goes into the casinos. There are probably some syndicates that launder money through these in some way or another.

It's about time!!
How the hell can you make statements like this?

You can lose millions of pounds online.  I bet some of  these fobts have better rtp than some slots online as the casino can alter the rtp for certain providers.

Cut the online stakes to 2 quid.

Can I just ask you Nick do you think it is acceptable that you can do a 2 grand spin on white rabbit? I think its a farce.

It is all relative. £2,000 is nothing to the high rollers that casinos attract. These high rollers make Nick look an amateur (no disrespect Nick).

You won't see me doing a £2,000 feature buy and that goes for most gamblers.

I haven't changed my name. Well not that I am aware off. Besides, who is you to say whether I can or can't respond? It is a discussion forum after all.

You asked the question whether it is acceptable to do a £2k spin on White Rabbit. I don't see a problem with it. Most gamblers won't be able to afford it so will not even try to attempt it. And if that millionaire wants to do that, what is you to stop him.

I made my point clear well before you even joined the forum that I don't like Government interference as I believe in freedom of choice.

Online gambling is safe enough providing that you can control it. But because YOU couldn't, doesn't mean that everybody is not able to.

Do you agree that online gambling is far more dangerous than fobts? Even streamers have said they have done their bollocks.  Most of us have reversed withdrawals.  My point is why are streamers like nickslots saying fobts need banned? Surely online needs looked at too then. Think of how much you can lose online.  Its actually pretty scary to be honest.

Do you agree that a casino that offers u the chance to reverse knows exactly what they are doing and is one of the lowest things that they can possibly do?

All casinos should have a lock withdrawal feature such as Rizk and Casumo have or just like Novibet no option to reverse at all.

Online gambling can be dangerous but you are in full control of it. It is not dangerous if you can control your gambling. Loss / deposit limits are obligatory for UKGC licenced casinos and I always suggest that players use these.
