Hello all
I've noticed a big trend this year for Volatile games and I thought to myself is this a good thing or a bad thing? I decided that I'm on the fence at the moment and this is why...
I've seen a lot of complaints from people saying "I didn't get one bonus" or "I haven't had a cashout in ages", the main reason for this is your slot choices. At the end of the day slots are random but a clever player knows how to turn bonuses into an advantage. Why are bonuses getting harder to get - simple reason - some people are getting clever in how to convert them and are doing more often than some casino would like. I've been banned from a few casinos for bonus abuse because I get the most out of my bonuses and with some luck know how to wager them. This comes to understanding what volatily is and variance is.
Variance - a slot that has low pays to medium pays i.e. 10x - 200x would be considered low variance, a slot that has high pays i.e. 1x - 5000x would be high variance.
Volatility - is how often it pays out, a low volatily slot will pay almost every spin and the bonus would have frequentl, a high volatile slot will pay maybe 1 in 10 spin and may take 150+ spins to bonus.
Mix the Variance and Volatilty with Frequency of Events and you have an understanding of how a slot works. Most slots have an RTP 94-97% but variance and volatility can change peoples view on games a lot. UNDERSTAND - ANY SLOT CAN PAY.
High Volatile games are so popular at the moment becasue they give the idea that you can win on them examples are : Danger High Voltage, Book of Dead, Bonanza, Book of Ra, Captain Venture etc
Low Volatile games are not very popular and most people say they are trash : Steamtower, Copy Cats, Bloodsuckers 2 etc
The trap that most people fall into is the volatile category, they see these big wins and think this is the only way to win and because this is becoming more popular a lot of new slots are being thrown away as rubbish unless its volatile. My fear is that providers will start to feel that this is the only way to go and more and more games of this nature will be made. I don't want to rip £100 in less that 10 minutes on these machines and worry this will become the normal thing. I play a range of slots from High to Low knowing what I can get for my money and without these Lower volatility slots beating a bonus will get harder.
I play slots for fun and have been in the dark times of playing slots just to win, so know how that path ends. People need to begin to think it of entertainment again and not just what x value does it give. Streamers please take note that you have a responsibility to give this message to people too. Play a range of slots, play the new less known slots dont just play the same popular volatile 10 games because people want to see big wins. I feel this community is in danger of falling in love with volatility too much (I like these high volatile games too) and not how much fun the game/concept is. Big Time Gaming is so popular, is it down to game design ... NO (even thought they are well designed), its down to the fact they give x5000 plus wins. NetEnt has brought out some alright games (I think they can do better) but people give them so much hate now because they dont give over 500x wins.
I've learnt to more clever with my slotplaying and because of it this year Im in profit and last year I didnt lose much. How did I do this but knowing the slots and playing all variance of games not just the volatile ones.
What do you think and what effects your game choice - potential or enjoyment ?
