Regulation has got tougher over the years. It's down to the casino to perform KYC (know your client) checks, some are better than others. Nowadays it's more automated and algos, previously was manual. Photo ID has always been a must.

Never had problems with PokerStars to be honest. Regulations are tougher just like @Nebnalon mentioned and it probably has to do with some verification process or something like that.
Once had a chat with this CS guy from Dunder casino and he mentioned a lot of complains where people just didn't want to cooperate. Dunno if this is the case but there are very lack of read on the small text.

I'm registered with about 25-30 different betting sites, none of them have ever asked me for photo ID
Well your very lucky because most sites require them. Don’t you think it will be worth getting a provisional driving license incase of any future wins? Imagine hitting a 10k and not being able to withdraw because you’ve not got photo ID 🤔

Yes,this is a good point. As an older slots player and casino user I even forked out £20 to get a photo driving licence in the UK after having a non picture ID for around 30 years. It has saved me a fair bit of hassle.

To be fair some sites I'm on have never asked me to verify and I've deposited thousands and won thousands. Even a vip on a couple. I know they do inital checks when you sign up. But most will ask for verification docs before you withdraw or even deposit.
Just wondering, what site did ask you for verification docs before you did deposit?

Om topic: just get an id. Will cost you less then your winnings

I learnt my lesson about 15 year ago with foxy, won £500 and needed photo ID. I panicked but got my provisional which then inspired me to start driving. Win win... only with ID though 😬
