Hi all,

Taffophile here, usually seen chatting in @LetsGiveItASpin channel.

My niche betting is that of English Non League football, one that I believe that bookmakers miss a trick on, and price up selections badly.

My main focus will be on that of the Vanarama National League South, a league that my local club has been part of for over 10 years.  In this time, I had a season ticket, allowing me to travel to different teams around the league. This has helped my knowledge grow; from management, squad depth and individual players who circulate in non league.

Throughout the season I'll be dropping in my selections and reasons below.  I'll be using Bet365 prices as a rough guide, although there can be large variation on other sites.

17/10/20

WIN SINGLE

Hungerford Town v Concord Rangers:  Concord win @2.6 or Draw No Bet @ 2.00

Hungerford have started the season well, winning two from two. However, as the season progresses I expect them to be drawn into a relegation dogfight. A young, inexperienced squad who I believe are sitting in a false position in the table.

Concord have only played one game so far in the league, however have done well to progress in the qualifying rounds of the FA Cup. Their squad is one that is settled for non league, with many having played together two seasons ago, when they finished inside a playoff position. I expect Concord to use their physicality to their advantage in this tie.

WIN SINGLE

Eastbourne Borough v Chelmsford City: Eastbourne win @2.4 or Draw No Bet @1.83

Eastbourne have started the year with one win and one loss. They are well known for playing fast football through the midfield on their 4g pitch. Coming off scoring 4 goals in their last league game, and scoring 3 in their FA Cup qualifier midweek, confidence will be sky high in their attackers.

Chelmsford are undergoing a transformation season. For the past 7 years they have regularly sustained a playoff push. However, due to current COVID implications, severe budget cuts have occured. This means that an emphasis on youth and players recruited from lower leagues has been the transfer tactic.  Lack of goals seems to be the main concern for Chelmsford at this current time, with one goal in competitive football after three games.

WIN DOUBLE

Braintree Town v Dorking Wanderers:  Dorking Win @1.83

Maidstone United v Hemel Hempstead: Maidstone Win @1.85

Braintree are another team I expect to be in a relegation fight come the end of the year. A young, inexperienced squad ravaged by budget cuts. Also got knocked out to lower league opposition during the week.

Dorking have strengthened impressively during the offseason, with perhaps the highest quality strike pairing in the league. Currently 2 wins from 2, I expect them to be too much for a failing Braintree side.

Maidstone are another squad full of experienced head, with some impressive youth signings to give them pace and width. A win and a draw (against much fancied title favourites Havant) shows this side mean business.

Hemel are undergoing a major transformation at the club. A new manager, brought in from lower leagues, with many of the squad not playing at this level before as well. Two losses from two, with goals being leaked at one end of the pitch, whilst also struggling to find their scoring boots, means it could be a long afternoon for Hemel.

A massive thankyou to anyone bothered to read this far! I'll be updating the thread to see how my selections got on, hopefully the first week won't be a total disaster.

Some price updates for today's selections:

Concord win: 2.6 into 2.25

Eastbourne win: 2.4 drifted to 2.55

Dorking win:  1.83 into 1.4

Maidstone win: 1.85 into 1.44

Hopefully some good results to follow :)

Sorry mate saw this now! How did it go?
already awesome bets since lines were pushed! WP
Slightly disappointing day:
Eastbourne drew 1-1 so money back if picked Draw No bet option

Concord lost 1-0 despite playing against 10 men for 35 minutes

Win double cruised in, with 4-0 and 4-1 victories

All played with equal stakes, so slight profit for the day :)

Hi all,

Believe I have found some excellent value for a Saturday fixture in the Vanarama National League South. Posting early so @Blanco and others can have a read :)

Chelmsford City v Maidstone United: Maidstone [email protected] OR Maidstone Draw No Bet @evens

I'm a firm believer that these odds will tumble by the time the fixture will take place on Saturday. Weirdly, bookmakers seem to continue to price up selections heavily favouring home teams. As like most leagues around Europe, the National South currently does not allow fans to attend. This immediately wipes away any home advantage they would have.

Maidstone have started the year excellently, with a 2-1-0 record in the league, scoring 8 goals in the process. Summer recruitment was excellent, securing the signing of non league veteran Scott Rendell. As well as this, they perhaps have one of the strongest defences on paper in the league, with George Elokobi (formerly of  Wolves, colchester and Leyton Orient) controlling the backline.

Chelmsford have started the season slowly, with a 0-2-1 record. Scoring only two goals in the process, the clarets seem extremely lacklustre going forward. One bright spark has been former Liverpool man Adam Morgan, scorer of the two goals. However, I believe his threat will be nullified by the strong and powerful backline.

I don't expect Maidstone to win easily like they did last week (a 4-1 thrashing of Hemel), however I simply believe them to be too strong for an average Chelmsford side. Best of luck to anyone that follows :)

Well, I certainly misread the markets as Maidstone now sit at a very attractive 2.8. I remain confident so let's hope for a positive display :)

Full time: Chelmsford 1-0 Maidstone

A tale of three penalties: Chelmsford score theirs, Maidstone miss two.

When your luck is off, it is truly off 😒
