1 out 5 Londoners would do what?

We can all agree gambling should never be considered a way to earn money. Apparently the high costs of living in UK make more people to gamble and hope to win.

Recent survey suggests 1 out of 5 Londoners, if they were handed £20 they would bet it in hope of winning big to help in cost of living crisis.

Does it surprise you?

@ThereSheComes No it doesn't surprise me at all, my friend became homeless during lockdown and in Liverpool, homeless people where put up in hotels during lockdown as they had to get them off the streets. There was so many people from London here who had lost there homes, jobs etc through gambling. Apparently we are much more emphatic in the North towards homeless. Apparently both husband and wife had been sleeping together in a tent in city centre after losing both jobs and house. I can relate I couldn't complete my degree lost phone car, friends etc.,.. the mental health state is the worst of all though constantly being a loser. I remember my professor telling me the uni had done a research project on gambling I think they said as high as 96 percent of gamblers where losers, it was to late for me by then I was already 6 years in. The Universities actually have a fund to help students who have fell into the gambling trap they actually helped me from losing my home at one point, I never finished my final year of degree because of gambling and it has all been further and further down hill ever since another 6 years later

Inflation is insane worldwide, I can see how people would be desperate to try things as gambling or other (more criminal) things to keep their head above the water.

Sorry to hear this man. And it is very disturbing that we live in a world now when gambling seems the way to get money to buy food or pay bills. I think there should be more done to help real gambling addicts

Unfortunately it is real, we see that many countries, Ireland is no longer a place you can enjoy live without worries how to pay bills.

It actually surprised me, thats a lot of people being desperate enough to risk money to loose this way.

Gambling is with human for very long time, and it will never stop, people will always find a way to be able to gamble.
Here it is not a matter of despair but that "hope" is stronger than everything else. Even stronger than common sense

@ThereSheComes Yes sad reality of the gambling trap, I made some really bad choices along the way. Totally blindsided by the reality of the slot industry, not understanding how they really work until it is too late. I just hope these gambling industries are forced to become more transparent and hope more industry experts come forward with the truth, there is just a big wall of silence no one speaks about. I suppose I will have to start speaking myself, I mean we have to start somewhere eh..!

Some people can hear you, some unfortunately need to reach own bottom rock to finally open their eyes. Gambling is fun as long as you use common sense, but with addictions it is never that simple and easy to stop.

This is what addiction makes to you. It is very hard to stop with something that gives you the rush. Took me lots of money to loose before I grew strong enough to never consider gambling as a way to earn money.

@ThereSheComes To be honest it was never about making money, because I knew that could never be the case, I have been online gambling for 13 years now, I lost more than I won obviously but had my win moments that compensated for my loses from time to time as you expect, my problem started on Videoslots when I noticed a huge difference in my play starting Feb 2019 when they changed rules for UK players and lowered RTPs as well as stopping bonus buys, and auto spins, I was not aware of these changes, because they had published them hidden on there website, that came out later from another customer who published what they where doing online.

Anyway  unaware I continued to plough money after money into the site, I mean thousands after thousands of pounds never getting any returns, it literally broke me, in a very short space of time, I carried on playing thinking one day I will surely hit something, I was  hoping for a win just enough to purchase a computer that is all I wanted and needed to start my own business to get back on my feet, however it never happened I just couldn't get a break, being an idiot I just carried on thinking surely one day I will hit something, it never happened.

By the end of it even the wins I had from other sites just wasn't enough because the hole was just to big and any wins I had could not even cover any gambling loses or cover normal daily bills, all I wanted was to win enough to cover my bills for a few weeks and buy a computer lol, it never happened, I started looking into the company and quickly realised it was never going to be a possibility as the lowered RTPs and where literally offering different RTPs to different people, I mean how is that even legal?  it had become 100 percent impossible to win, when questioned they where in full denial, even though I had evidence that they had published themselves what they had done, this started raising huge flags for me, when they started blatantly lying and using excuses, they even had all my bank statements of what was coming in and out, and could see I was spending more than I had coming in and they never questioned me once, I could deposit however much I wanted without question . It basically lead me into researching the company which lead me down huge a rabbit hole on the industry.  How this company market themselves as a reputable casino and leaders in the market is beyond me, because this could not be further from the truth, because they are getting away with absolute murder. No wonder they keep getting fined millions.
