Unibet Stole My Winnings

Hi everyone

I am new to the forum, but a big fan of Kim and Blanco's streams.

I am expecting some negative responses, as I made a stupid error... but it genuinely was an error and Unibet are now withholding nearly £25,000 of my winnings and refusing to payout.

My husband and I bank with the same bank, therefore have cards that look identical. Both cards have the same expiry date and we are open with our finances, therefore regularly use each other's cards.

Last month, I opened a Unibet account, deposited several times with what I thought was my card, Unibet never asked for the name on my card as part of the deposit process (if they did, the deposits would likely have been rejected as I used my husband's card in error). That week I won almost £25,000 playing roulette and went to withdraw the money.

Unibet asked for the usual verification ID, as expected and I sent them everything assuming it would be accepted. Once they informed me my account was suspended, to be fair to Unibet they refunded my deposits, but I do feel extremely aggrieved, because the 'only use your card' rule is surely to prevent fraud, rather than for genuine errors like mine.

I have contacted my Solicitor (a family friend) who is urging me to take them to court as they are basically stealing £25,000 from me. He says that had I have lost the money Unibet wouldn't have refunded it because I used my husband's card, therefore they are taking advantage of the situation and have accepted a 'risk free bet'.

I am suffering from depression, particularly with what's going on in the world and whilst a long drawn out legal battle isn't ideally what I want, I will fight them for this, however wanted to share in case Unibet have any representatives on here willing to discuss or anyone else have had any similar experiences and can give any advice.

Once again, I know it was a stupid error so please don't respond telling me this as it was genuine!

Thanks

When you join a casino you agree to the terms set out every casino will not allow you to use some one else's card, you might of made a genuine mistake but it's still breaking the terms. When you register a card you have to put in the cardholders name, it would be easier if verification checks were done before you deposit, some casinos might have done things differently by checking everything you said verifying the bank accounts etc. But if you look at it by unibets view you create an account deposit a few times with someone else's card, have a big win and try to cash out that is s big red flag. Not to mention the fact that I'm sure that the 3 digits on the back of the cards aren't the same. If I was them I would have acted the same refunded deposits and closed the account.

When i just started gambling years back, i did almost the same. It was not a mistake to be honest, i just wanted to use the same bonus on the same site. So i just made my wife an account, and used my card for deposit. Back then i never read the terms. Had some good wins and when i wanted to withdrawel i had problems. But they just asked me and to sign a agreement that my wife was allowed to use my card in her account and then they paid me the money. They also asked me not to do it again, It was on playojo.

There is no way for you to win here. You made an mistake, or atleast that's what you are saying..

Truth is that many people do the same thing.. And loose, then they ask for an refund because they played with the wrong card..

The casino did the only right thing and refunded deposits made.

Please talk to someone in person that you can trust about this: a friend, your wife/husband (not sure if you have stated all facts correctly) or your general practicioner/doctor.

As to your problems with Unibet: I don't think there is an Unibet rep on this forum. If there is, (s)he is very unlikely to discuss the specifics of your case over the forums, if only for privacy reasons.

You have the following options to try to get any more money than you already have (return of deposits)
1) diplomacy through your affiliate (the website that you signed up to Unibet from) or some other friendly party, for example the 'pitch-a-bitch service' by Casinomeister or a complaint through ThePogg.
2) through the 'claims and disputes' route as indicated by Unibet in its Terms & Conditions (#16)
That is, first claim at Unibet directly, after that go to their 'Alternative Dispute Resolution' provider, which is eCogra in their case.
3) in some cases a claim through your country's regular legal system is possible.

Whatever you do, please don't do anything stupid. It is only money.

Best of luck!

p.s. lastly I'd like to state that I have seen dozens of somewhat similar stories on gambling forums.
You may call me cinical but after reading so many of  those I don't believe in genuine stupid errors.

It’s a dog eat dog world. You vs the casino in a battle you fight up hill. They would never do the right thing and pay you out. They are trying to run a profitable business. That 25k will cover someone’s wages at the casino for a year. Unlucky. I remember loosing $6400 once because I did one single spin at $1 on The Wish Master Slot. It was a restricted game While using a bonus because it has a high RTP. Plus they allowed the game to load while using bonus money, in order for ppl to mess up.. I wagered over $12,000 but that $1 spin was enough for them to keep my money. Shit happens move on, good luck 😉

Everyone committing fraud would like for their transaction to be interpreted as a genuine error too.

I’m sure they would... but my husband has never owned a Unibet account, I didn’t take any bonuses, it was a genuine mistake and literally had no benefit in using another card.

I’m sure the casinos don’t refund when asked for one... so by them not refunding and not paying out they are accepting bets illegally.

My grievance is that I didn’t have to put cardholders name in on Unibet. If I did have the chance to it would have likely declined the deposits instead of going through all of this.

Thanks Orzabot, I suspect given the large amount I won they’ll do all they can not to pay sadly.

Thanks so much for your useful help and advice. I can assure you this one happened to be a genuine error. I’m lacking a lot of sleep atm and we both use the same bank so have very similar cards.

I get it’s a dog eat dog world but if this is what they’re like the UK Gambling Commission or a governing body need to protect players more as it’s disgraceful.

It’s absolutely disgusting behaviour but the T&C’s will protect the casino. The amount of money involved here make me sick to my stomach. Millions of £€$ are lost every single year in these despite’s. Hidden traps that tons of people unknowing or by accident fall into. Sickening.

They do when they have too, if you had lost and then informed them it wasn’t the account owners card then they would likely, after an investigation, refund the deposit and block the account. This would be a case of you advantageously risk free betting.

£27k is nothing to Unibet. That site is gigantic.
They have to treat all suspicious activity the same, it would be very rare for them to make an exception.

There was no hidden trap here.

The UKGC would remove Unibets operating licence if Unibet, once they noticed the error, allowed people to continue depositing with cards not in the account holders name.

@Chindits Wish master is not blocked because it is a high RTP game. It is blocked because you can use bonus money to play until you get 1, 2, or 3 scrolls active then leave the game and return to it at a later date with real money and play it in a state where you are guaranteed to get wins for the next few spins. You use bonus money to get it to a paying state, then return to it with real money- this is possible because it doesn’t have a bonus round, each spins with scrolls active you still have to pay for so it counts them as new spins.

@Barry Lock

Solicitors are far off in any casino complaint.

Step 1 -You have to make a formal complaint to Unibet- they have up to 8 weeks to give you their final decision. If that isn’t favourable then you

Step 2 - take it to an Independent casino arbitration service who will liaise with the casino on your behalf. If that isn’t favourable then you can

step 3 - get a solicitor.

If you try to go to court or whatever without exhausting step 1 and 2 then you will just be told to go and do step 1 and 2 first.

Good luck but don’t expect a quick resolution. If you are in the UK then the casino should always accept what the IPCA(independent panel of casino arbitration) or it’s online counterpart, decides as to refute it would contradict the Fair and Open licensing objective.

I sent you a PM.

Believe me things happen like this all the time but try getting your money back if you lost everything and wasn't withdrawal-in.

It defo sucks to be in that situation, however - whoever's name is on the unibet account should match the bank account. Just like any other site.

Agreed, Unibet are the only site I’ve used that I didn’t type my name as written on the card. Had I have, the deposits would be reflected, I would have realised my error and used my card and be £25k richer.

Hey dude, i'm guessing this maybe a redundant question, though are they definitely 2 separate accounts at the bank? I don't mean the long card numbers, but are the sort codes & acct no's the same or different, and do you receive 2 separate statements??

Is just if it is a joint account then you got no problem at all, so thought i'd double check, since i've done bank work and same expiry date possibly indicates you both were same day visit together to open accts and if so then is unusual not to be given a joint one, unless you specially asked for standalones?
