Review Ribs Golden Crypt
Just played the free-to-play tournament and gave it a few more spins after failing to make it into the money (thanks for the free roll anyway). Honestly, the best thing about this slot might not even be the gameplay. It's kinda the skeleton standing next to the reels.
The Bone Man Makes It
He has plenty of lines. Some of em: “Ooh, hot, hot, hot hot,” “Careful Now,” “Hands on fire,” “This could be our chance” and “Yes, more multipliers!” Even his casual “Okeeeee” and “Well done” are nice touches.
Then there are the random animations. Sometimes he pulls out a guitar, while other times he takes a selfie for absolutely no reason. Very nice, although it would have been cool if he had a few more animations.
His design also reminded me of Raskulls, an Xbox game I used to play back in the day. The music is nice as well, with a sound that reminds me a bit of Harry Potter. I normally mute slot music pretty quickly, but this time I actually wanted to leave it on.
Gameplay
For the sake of a complete review, I will cover some of the basics of the game as well.
It's a 6x6 cluster slot where you match five or more connected symbols and let the cascades roll. Every winning cascade also leaves a Wild on a random empty position, potentially setting up further wins. This game comes with a 94.03% and 96.01% RTP version, picking the higher one is obviously the smart play.
The main attraction, of course, is the multipliers. Giant symbols add to your multiplier, while the purple Multiplier Meteors can bring values of up to 100x. These meteors do their thing once the cascades finish, multiplying your accumulated win multiplier. That's an interesting twist you don't see very often, as multipliers in many other slots simply add together.
Free Spins are triggered by collecting keys. Three, four or five keys award 8, 10 or 12 spins, respectively. The multiplier carries over between spins instead of resetting, giving you a chance to build it up further.
The maximum win is 10,000x your bet. However, this is a high-volatility slot, so don't expect constant action.
One Thing That Maybe Needs Improvement
My biggest issue is the super bonus. It is unclear when you are actually in it, or I am just stupid (could be it aswell to be fair).
This special mode guarantees a 2x2 Giant Symbol at the start of every Free Spin. However, there's barely any obvious indication that you've entered it when you trigger it in the base game, unless you've bought the Super Bonus yourself. The background changes during the bonus, but I would have liked a much clearer visual indication when it activates (for example make one of the scatter have super bonus in it).
Final Verdict
Ribs Golden Crypt isnt reinventing the slot machine, and its basic multiplier mechanics won't feel entirely new to experienced players. The meteors add an interesting twist, but the real reason I would come back is the character and the music.
Between the ridiculous voice lines, guitar performances, random selfies and that unexpectedly familiar music, the game has a charm that many slots lack. Even grinding through the base game feels a little less repetitive when a skeleton is shouting encouragement at you.
The confusing Super Bonus presentation and sometimes slow animations are genuine drawbacks, but they don't ruin the overall experience.
Rating: 8/10
A solid, entertaining slot with some interesting multiplier potential. The mechanics are decent, the presentation has character, and the Bone Man is whats carrying it. Sometimes, that's enough to make a game memorable.
