[FREEPLAY TOURNAMENT] Shadow Of Dominion (Slotmill)

This slot has a lot going for it. Visually, the medieval fantasy style is my bag and the game play mechanics are fun. The problem with this slot is the symbols value.
To explain, 8 or more of the same symbols is a win. The winning symbols disappear and in drop more...and with each win a multiplier grows. But the symbols value start so low you can even get to a 20+ multiplier and not win that much.

This problem repeats in the bonus. In the 'Dominion Respins' you can fill 90% of the screen with a symbol and a decent multiplier, but again, the visuals do not match the win. There are attempts to boost with giant symbols carrying their own multipliers but they don't quite get there.

What would I change? Make the wins rarer in the base game and put that value into the symbols. With this change you now have a very exciting innovative slot. It's that simple, the slot looks distinct, the gameplay is fun, but the frequent symbol pay being so low kills the excitement.

1. Graphics and Sounds 9,5/10

Shadow Of Dominion has a similar visual style as the recent releases. Dark sums it up in just one word ^^.
The visual design is detailed and sharp and a special frame shows symbols that would hit with just 1 more in the next cascade.
The soundtrack is nothing special but the gameplay sounds are once again very well done.
There is not much room for improvement when it comes to the game presentation by slotmill.

2. Game Mechanics 7/10

The base game uses a 6x6 Scatter Pays grid where 8 or more matching symbols create a win. Winning symbols disappear and new symbols fall into the empty positions, creating the Avalanche mechanic.

A classic multiplier game like many before from the mill of slots :)

Tumbles increases the multiplier, so one more cascade always gives a nice feeling. I am personally a big fan of progressing features because the keep up the tension even in bad looking bonus rounds.

We also got the Giant Symbols again. I played the game quite a while (mostly basegame and never saw a giant symbol miss, so they are great for building the multi (and they come attached with a multi that gets added to the total aswell. They appear in 2x2 and 3x3 size.

Its an easy to understand, Gates of Olympus style game, with a twist. The twist are the dominion respins. They can trigger randomly in basegame and have a higher chance to appear in the free spins.
They work as spins with a single symbol, when u land one or more u get another one and the multi is raised by 1, u keep going as long as atleast one symbol lands on the grid. When u have spin without a symbol they end u get the payout for the collected symbols and the multi applied to them.

Note: I Expect super high wins to be rare on this because u need a good symbol and then ideally fill the screen with it. The top symbol for example pays 500x when u fill the screen with it. This drops down to only 25x when at 35-31 symbols. Thats a steep decline and sick tension is guaranteed when u have a final spin for 1 symbol only ^^.

Playing basegame spins lacks something here, there is no real potential to win big other than dominion respins (and thats very very rare to hit big).

So in the end u r looking for builind a high multi and triggering the respins or to land the bonus symbols

The max win is 10k x, so just a filled screen of top symbol with 10x multi^^.

3. Bonus and Super Bonus 7/10

U need to land either 3 normal Scatters or 2 and a Super one to enter the free spins.
The Free Spins and Super ones both start with 6 free spins. U can get 2 more for each extra scatter up to a maximum of 12 in total.

As we know from Slotmill they have a persistent increasing multi for every cascade or giant symbol (with multi attached)
The Dominion Respins happen atleast once in most Bonus rounds can have their symbol transformed to a better one with the upgrade symbol.
The Super comes with more giant symbols (guaranteed on every spin) and more multis on them

This creates exactly the type of situation I enjoy in Slotmill games:

The multiplier getting higher, the symbols get upgraded, giant symbols (hopefully with a big multi) add a cascade and a win
and then u hope for the respins to start in the last spin for max potential.

I yet have to find the right words for it but imo sth is lacking, both in the basegame and bonus to make this game stand out like others did before.

4. Improvements

The game needs some small tweaks to make it a banger imo.

The most necessary improvent should be that a dominon respin should be guaranteed in a bonus round!!!
I would add some more features to the giant symbols, they could multiply the multiplier or add some more spins in the bonus, maybe even trigger a respin.
This could be made at random or give each of the top symbols the respective feature when they land as giants.

Some more special symbols like the "upgrade" could be added. I can think of a transformation one that transforms a few low symbols into better ones. Or some symbol that gets collected and triggers the bonus when u have a certain number of them. I didnt have much luck with natural free spins during my session so this could help to get more players enjoy the bonus without buying it.
Or make every deadspin increase the multi for the next winning spin.
I also noticed that there is no wild present on the reels, so plenty of to add a wild feature to the game too.

Something needs to be done about the basegame for the sequel, thats for sure :)

Conclusio

Shadow Of Dominion is another strong Slotmill release that just needs small adjustments to be an absolute blast.

Steamers and whales will buy their way to the max win but i think the normal gambler like me will try it, play for a bit and then move on because the most entertainment lies in the bonus. The high volatility doesnt help the regular joe either.

EDIT: after playing a little more i have some sad news: the giant symbols dont always connect :(

the good news is that i had a bonus round that had a dominion respin on spin 2 and one on the last.

i also have to add that the longer i play the game the more i like it, dominion respins are frequent in basegame, that makes the waiting for a bonus much more fun :)

Graphics & Sounds: 9,5/10
Base Game: 6/10
Bonus Game: 7,5/10
Mechanics: 7/10
Replayability: 7/10

Final verdict: 7,5/10

PS: english is not my native tongue but i think everyone will understand what i mean

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Always fun with a new slot!

Slotmill has done a creative good looking game and a classic theme. I enjoyed to spin it on the first look of it, a bit doll overall really just the music and looks wich was good.
The bonus kept showing up and giving zero wins, base game really slow and got like one okey hit in 1000 spins. The cluster multi gave me one 50X one time but the connections was bad and didnt reach that much of a win.

I felt like it most of all was a rip slot and didnt have much potential.
2/5

The dominion respins feature is really tilting because the basic rock symbols pay so low despite filling a huge portion of the screen, it feels really underwhelming when most of your bonuses are going to be rock symbols wth low line wins(despite the multiplier). The giant symbols are kind of meaningless when they drop in unless you have a premium symbol then the win size can start to ramp up. I found myself not watching the bonus unless I had premium symbols as it's not really something to sweat where a big win feels possible as you can't get multiple giant symbols because they fill the space up after dropping. Imagine instead if the giant symbols/multis dropped in with the multi and it adds nothing to the existing rocks, just gives the multiplier addition and another respin, more fun to me where you could actually drop in multiple 10x's etc and have a real sweat.

The free spins felt like more of the same, I never triggered the super bonus in real money play. Wanted to offer more feedback but I struggled to put in real volume on this title in particular.

same issue as someone else here, it first says username in use, you change the username, then it says email in use, you change the email, and then this pops up! hope it helps

I think this is the best game you’ve launched so far—at least from what I’ve seen and played myself. I really liked this one; either I got super lucky because I kept hitting big wins constantly—maybe it has great RTP or something? xD I also like the random feature where you can upgrade symbols and multipliers. Awesome.

About the Shadow of Dominion by Slotmill:

RTP: 96.12%

Max win potential: 10 000x

Avalanche scatter pays

6x6 grid

Progressive win multiplier

Features:
Win Multiplier:

The win multiplier is displayed in a bubble next to the reels. It is increased by 1 for each tumble and/or respin, and by the multiplier value from a giant symbol when used in a win. Tumble wins are multiplied by the multiplier, which resets at the start of a new base game spin.

Giant Symbols:
Giant symbols of 2x2 or 3x3 may randomly appear on the grid, counting as 4 or 9 symbols, respectively. Giant symbols appear with a multiplier which is added to the win multiplier when the giant symbol is part of a win.

Dominion re-spins:
Dominion Re-spins may trigger at random at the start of any spin. A single pay symbol type and/or dead symbols land in waves of respins until no new pay symbol appears. Giant symbols may appear. Each respin increases the win multiplier, which applies to the win when the feature ends. An upgrade symbol may also appear, which upgrades the chosen pay symbol to the 1 higher symbol on the paytable.

Free Spins and Super Free Spins:

Landing 3 to 6 scatter symbols in the base game awards 6 to 12 free spins. During free spins, the win multiplier starts at 1z and doesn't reset until the feature ends. Landing one super scatter when the bonus is triggered awards the same number of super free spins. The same rules apply, but a giant symbol is guaranteed to land on every spin.

Personal opinion/ feedback:
This slot is not that volatile when compared to other Slot mills latest releases.
I find that too much of the RTP hides behind the Dominon Re-spins, Dominion re-spins are fine as a base game feature,
but i'm don't like it being that big part of the bonus. Simply put i find it boring. I would prefer the wins in bonus to come through
amazing avalanche hits and big dropdowns.

Ratings:
If you are looking for a slot by Slotmill that is not that swingy to your balance, then this is for you.
Base game: 9/10
Bonus game: 6/10
Design: 9/10

Feedback:
I really like how this game was designed. There are a lot of features, two of which work well together in terms of mechanics and graphics; the clarity, music, and gameplay are fantastic.

So, starting with the graphics and music. The atmosphere is right, the music for big wins is appropriate, and the main background soundtrack is also very good. Gameplay: Eight colored symbols + a premium symbol: great, clear, and specific- great!

I’ll start with an unpopular opinion and the biggest plus. Finally, we have a great xBet option – Dominion Respins. Overall, I see a common thread with Tyrant Fall, which I keep coming back to – the volatility needs to be set very high so you can win big or get a super bonus from xbet opition. A great minigame, symbol upgrades, and stacking multipliers make it really feel like you can win a few Kx without the main bonus.

Super Bonus and Bonus, nicely taken from Big Blocks from Ragnarok and many other symbols, are well incorporated. Final spins increase the blood pressure if you have a multiplier over 50.

Regarding improvements:
- I would add Dominion respins during an ongoing bonus spin. Big wins rely heavily on them, and when you see that there won’t be a respin on the last spin, for example, you start to look away.
- Superbonus hunt. I haven’t heard of that in a while, and I’ve always liked something for around 4-5x the bet, and I enjoy using these mechanics.

Great game, top 3 Slotmill straight away, and see you at the game of the year award!

Slot Review: Shadow of Dominion by Slotmill

1. Graphics and Sounds (9/10)

Shadow of Dominion's theme combines Nordic runes with a magical hammer, mythical creatures with a magical orb within a castle as the main background for this slot. I assume that a dark unknown magician is the main character with the golden mask and the orb with the multipliers.

The slot truly manages to build up the atmosphere with a dramatic soundtrack, especially in the bonus and the sound effect of the orb zapping the multipliers.

My absolute favorite are the pillars at the side changing their colours when the symbol of the Dominion respins upgrades, which looks amazing. Huge respect for that detailed animations to the graphics people, especially the fog at the side of the slot for the creepyness!

2. Game Mechanics and Game Flow in Base Game (9,5/10)

The game mechanics for the different bet options are cleanly distributed in Shadow of Dominion. You got your X-tra bet to hit the bonus more often plus the Giant Symbol and Dominion Respins.

It makes it much more enjoyable to not get overburdened by multiple options and simply focus on your one favorite gameplay choice. Too many extra bets make it feel for the player to make wrong choices, here it's clean and simple, big props for that!

Lots of players will choose the DOMINION RESPINS option as main playstyle, because it’s highly entertaining and as a player you always have the chance for the main payout when you fill out the whole grid with symbols.

3. Bonus and Super Bonus rounds (9/10)

The bonus and super bonus in Shadow of Dominion are well thought out. It takes a bit of time and luck until the set-up has potential. But once the set-up is great, the slot can pay huge at a multiplier of 50x and higher.

The Super Bonus gives you a huge advantage with the extra addition of extra squares with bigger multipliers, but the normal Bonus still has plenty of potential with the right set-up. Also the UPGRADE drops are plenty and can turn a bonus quickly into great fortune.

100x and 400x are sensible purchase costs for the bonus types, due to the good slot maths with the bonuses only unleashing their max win potential when set-up is good. It's a good balance between an affordable price to buy the bonus and chance to pay big.

4. Improvements for Shadow of Dominion 2

Added Multipliers for completing a full line in the DOMINION Respins

Having the orb possibly saving a DOMINION respin by zapping the empty spots and respinning this way

Slow spinning a bit earlier in the DOMINION respin, e.g. when only 5 spots are needed to get filled for more suspense

Not only having one orb for the multiplier but also two more orbs in other colours which when filled, can expand the grid for even bigger wins, or upgrade automatically the symbol in the DOMINION respin into a premium symbol.

Final verdict: 9/10

Shadow of Dominion is another strong Slotmill slot with a great balance between all wager options. The concept with the DOMINION RESPINS has a clear chance to become very popular with the players thanks to the „jackpot“ payout structure when hitting full screen.

Shadow of of Dominion

Intro
Shadow of Dominion is Slotmill's stab at dark, mythological theming. Taking place in what feels like an old, dystopian cathedral past its prime, you have got a female personification of death and various mythical beasts. While it hits the same vibe as Dark Forge or Emberfall, it stands out with its own distinct, eerie personality rather than just recycling classic Norse tropes. There is no revolution here, but it is a visually stunning execution with enough edge to stand out.

The Grid
The game operates on a 6x6 scatter-pays setup: you need at least 8 matching symbols for a win, and their specific positions on the board do not matter. Betting ranges from €0.20 to €100.

The Avalanche mechanic drives the core gameplay. Winning combos disappear, new symbols drop, and each cascade bumps your persistent Win Multiplier by +1. The interesting bit is the Giant Symbols. Regular symbols can drop as 2x2 or 3x3 blocks, and these giants come with their own multipliers that are immediately added to your total multiplier.

Bonuses
Dominion Respins: These trigger randomly in the base game and fill the bottom rows with matching symbols. You get respins as long as matching symbols keep landing. Upgrade symbols and giant blocks are fair game here, making it one of the most highly anticipated features of the slot.

Free Spins: Activated with 3 Bonus symbols (marked by a flaming anvil), awarding 6 free spins as a base, with each additional bonus symbol adding +2 spins up to 12. The multiplier starts at x1 initially but persists between spins. Because the spin count is so low, a single dead spin can easily ruin the entire bonus.

Super Free Spins: Unlocked with 2 Bonus symbols and 1 Super Bonus symbol, also awarding 6 spins with the same +2 per extra symbol scaling up to 12. The same rules apply, but every spin guarantees a Giant Symbol to force combinations.

Feature Buys: You can buy a Giant Symbol for 10x your bet, Dominion Respins for 50x your bet, Free Spins for 100x, or Super Free Spins for 400x. The Xtra-Bet doubles your stake and boosts bonus odds by 3.6x. Similar to Hacksaw Gaming, Slotmill's extra bets actually feel impactful and drastically alter the pace.

Feel
The base game is brutally volatile, but the real underlying issue is the math model. Because of the Avalanche and multiplier mechanics, the paytable has been completely gutted. You can build up a massive 50x multiplier, but if you are connecting low-value "rock" symbols during a Dominion Respin, the payout remains frustratingly low. The game gives you the illusion of a massive hit, but you desperately need a full screen of premium symbols to unlock the real potential.

Furthermore, the game suffers from severe "teaser fatigue." It constantly drops two scatters and slows down the reels for the third. While initially exciting, this happens so frequently with zero payoff that you eventually become numb to the mechanic and just want to skip the animations.

As with other recent releases, the Burst Mode lets you play at ultra-speed without watching the grid, though it can drain your bankroll dangerously fast given the volatility.

Return to player
The RTP stands at 96.12% with a hard win cap of 10,000x your bet. Refreshingly, Slotmill displays the RTP tier right on the boot screen, offering a level of transparency that many other providers currently lack.

Verdict
Shadow of Dominion layers strong mechanics in an atmospheric, highly detailed package. The Dominion Respins and Xtra-Bet options are excellent additions that give the game its own identity. However, the crippled base symbol values and the annoyingly frequent bonus teasers severely drag the base game down. It is an aggressive, well-designed slot built for players chasing massive multipliers, but the math model demands patience and a thick skin.

Visuals & Atmosphere 9/10
Sound 8.5/10
Base Game 6/10
Bonuses 8/10
Win Potential 8/10
Overall 8.0/10

Personal side note
I have a basic all-in-one PC with a Pentium Gold 7505 that starts lagging when playing some slots, and a more advanced computer with a Ryzen 5600H. I realize the basic one is mainly for browsing, office work and watching some videos. But it is kind of frustrating having to switch to a different PC just to play some slots.

This isn’t specific to Slotmill, as I’ve noticed it with other providers too, but wouldn’t it be useful to have a really low graphics setting? That way, people can more easily play your games.

Thanks for the free roll.
