[COMPETITION] - BerryBurst Max

MAX concept feedback

I wasn’t sure what the MAX concept was (unfortunately I missed the start of the release stream), but I did some reading on NETENT website to catch up. As far as I understand slots will be released in two editions, a regular one and one MAX version with high volatility. I’m not sure if both slots will be available at the casino, or they have to pick one of them? Will be interesting to see.

If the MAX concept work as I think it will, it a smart move from NETENT. If you google or search on youtube for “big wins” you are most likely to see slots from BTG, Merkur and novomatics to mention some providers. Lately also slots from Push Gaming is more often to see. Of course there is still a lot of insane good wins on Dead or Alive, and a few Jack and the Beanstalk, as well as Book of Dead and Reactoonz from Play n’ Go. However, I think BTG has the majority of all the biggest win.

The MAX concept might be able to take NETENT back on the throne. The question is, will they dare to compete against some of the insane BTG slots with 10.000x+++++ wins? IF that is the intention on the MAX concept, I give my thumbs up! Still, as I said in my review, they need to make some slots with more features that people want to see, want to feel, want to play. It’s awesome to get huge basegame hits, but you need the high-five when those scatters drop in – bonus time! ?

There are some classics I’d love to see MAX’ed up!

1. Twin Spin

This is a slot I like very much, even though it has no free-spins or bonus. The sound and excitement when you get 5 reels synced is awesome, but I feel the potential is a bit too low, compared to Queen of Riches by BTG. If you MAX it up, you might snatch some QOR players easily :P

My suggestion: whenever a wild symbol hits, it gets expanded! I’ve had 5 reels synced, and a line of WILDS, but the win wasn’t awesome, because the other lines was 2 different symbols. Imagine that line expand for a fullscreen.

2. Steamtower

A very well know slot for most players, where the free-spins isn’t many spins away. What I like is that the bonus doesn’t only offer free-spins with potential more winnings than the basegame, but also a goal to reach the top (which I’d think should be rewarded much more, because it’s hard to reach the top!)

My suggestion: whenever a wild hits in bonus, it gets expanded (and 6+ spins ?)

3. Drive multiplier mayhem

This has potential when the X2-X5 hits on a line. But what if all those could go fullscreen? What an insane hit that would be!

My suggestion: When you hit a X2-X5 wild you can either get the reel expanded, or the wild will spread out new wilds. Like, X4 wild will clone 4 new wilds, X2 wild will clone 2 new wilds. If you get one 2X wild and one 3X wild, you will get 5 new wilds spread out the reels. Imagine you get one X1, one X2, one X3, one X4 and one X5 :)

Very good suggestions pausefisk and cool with the graphics to illustrate your points  :D

While reading your post, I thought of another way to do Steam Tower. Let every wild count, keep it at 2 extra spins per wild and increase top floor to like 30, and then let that pay out big. Also would make sense in the way that Towers gets taller and taller :)

I completely follow your thought that top floor is (or at least feels) hard to get compared to the payout, in a MAX edition that should give like 5 or 10 times as much as today

 
I feel that you are going to the right direction with increasing the volatility of your games, while still offering a lower variance version. 

So here are my ideas regarding the MAX concept:

One of my all time favourite games is Reel Rush ( goes to tell I have over 5000 "Big win" awards on that game at Casumo only :D  ). I think you could MAX that game by making the wilds act as 2x, 3x or 4x multipliers when you have achieved the free spins. That would act a lot of excitement!

Another Classic I would like to see maxed would be Secret of the Stones. Maybe take a page out of Yggdrasil's book, and make that game have maybe a "Golden bet", which gives 1 extra pick in the bonus, and "Platinum bet" which would give 2 extra picks. Then on top of that, include picks for making Reel 3 wild, or even Reel 1 and 5 wild as well. So basically playing the Platinum bet could allow you to get a ridiculous setup of something like "Reels 2,3,4 wild, 3x multiplier, Owl wild and 10 extra spins for some monstrous wins!

I agree with pausefisk about Twin Spin, even if the game allowed fullscreen of wilds or diamonds, it would pay a bit under 10 000 x, which still pales with BTG games.

NetEnt is quite known for great "license-based" games. Planet of the Apes is an awesome game, and MAXing it in my mind would require some kind of a "double bonus" if you managed to land 3 scatters in both reels on one spin. 

In general I am in a favor of putting a lot of RTP in to the free spins bonus, and then making the free spins difficult to get, but have a very high average win. Then the player can truly be excited when the free spins are won. 

Berryburst feedback:

I never play Starburst since it has no bonus feature and the max win is quite low. With Berryburst and Berryburst MAX you have fixed one of these problems, so I have played the game a few times and enjoyed it, even scoring a win bit over 200x! NetEnt games always run very smooth and have very honed graphics and sounds, and Berryburst is no exception. Great game in total, although I am not a huge fan of games that don't have a free spins feature.

BerryBurst MAX my feedback/review

I have tried out BerryBurst Max with my own money finally last weeks’ time and also seen other videos on youtube or streamers play it.

For start first that springs to mind are with no doubt Starburst (could actually call it Starburst 2 which I guess it is hehe) Starburst on a cocktail tour :D

I think BerryBurst Max has really nice graphics and sound plus music also really nice and fits with the “Berry” theme. To be fair I think NetEnt has always been really good with graphics and music in slots if not the best then among the best.

At first, I actually thought it was 243 ways but of course, realized it used the same kind of cluster format as seen in Aloha cluster pays. So basically no pay line(bet lines) wins. This is perfectly fine and makes a more unique slot compared to Starburst.

Overall I enjoyed the slot despite this kind of slot is not my favourite but I would choose this if I had the choice between having to spin on Starburst or BerryBurst Max.

I am more into slots that gives you a feature round free spins or bonus round (something exciting to look forward to) and not just a few respins with wilds.

To finish off I see a problem having 2 versions like BerryBurst. It will confuse new slot players and they won't understand really what the difference is. As in reality it's only the “paytable” features on BerryBurst or MAX versions is the same apart from 6000x max win to 3000x max win.

I think I will finish with these words. Sadly I did not write my review early enough as wanted to do some testing and research on slot first and close to deadline now :)

PS sorry for bringing original BerryBurst slot into this as should only have been a review of BerryBurst MAX but felt I wanted to give my input on this.

MAX concept:

I will assume this first release was to get the new MAX concept started as the 2 releases share exact same feature etc.

To start off with please don’t take it negatively but releasing 2 different versions for slots I think will more confuse new slots players and even myself as an experienced player I will pick one and stick with it.

If taking BerryBurst and MAX I think the most played of these 2 will actually be the normal version with higher RTP. As overall chances of hitting the biggest wins are so low that in long run is a better choice to stick with lower volatility.

To be honest if I wanted to play a slot with high volatility then it would not be BerryBurst MAX but instead Dead or Alive or a slot from a different slot provider with a higher max win chance.

Please don’t get me wrong I already spoken positively about your graphics and music in slot = high quality but really we need to see new unique slots where then you could use the MAX concept.

I feel would be great to see you releasing some of the older slots though with MAX but I would much rather see something new and nice.

But if I had to give a suggestion of old slots then my biggest wish would be a modified Dead or Alive MAX version this would be really cool. What I would have in mind would be maybe a wild respin in this slot could work as sticky wilds or just simple expanding wilds. But of course be careful not to ruin this original excitement the free spin feature already has.

Other ideas for DOA could add a new element which gives a chance of extra spins or maybe a random wild added there are a lot of small extra features that could be added. Also, some new music and great graphics to make it stand out (I know you can do it NetEnt) if you don’t make a MAX for this slot then please make a DOA 2 and go crazy with a 243 ways could be a MAX idea :)

For other old titles, I would love to see others has already given great examples so I don’t really want to use their ideas or words but just simply gives you some titles here I think would be great.

Steam Tower, Tornado, Drive multiplier Mayhem, South Park (someone already suggested this but I know not a chance because of the license but who knows might come back).

To finish off I hope you will have a think about releasing 2 versions of new slots and hope instead you would stick with just a new unique MAX slot as I already gave my view and opinion on. I might be totally wrong and many others don’t agree but at least I have given my view on this :)

You can draw a slight likeness to what Microgaming did with Game OF Thrones a 15 line version and 243 version (I did also not like this as got confused and sometimes played the wrong version) I feel 1 slot should be it.

Can I ask - what is you're favourite BTG game and why?  The 10000x is such a big lure?  Even though you're chances of seeing it yourself is very remote?

This is great, great great!  Let me ask - if we were to release a MAX version of our classic slots - would you want another version - or we add it as an option (i.e. MAX Mode) to the original game when you load it up?

OMG i actually forgot one very important detail to add in my MAX review feedback.

I forgot to mention that MAX is a great idea and concept. BUT if you could somehow implement a MAX button/version. So there was no need for having 2 separate slots then that would make it awesome. As I stated I think its a bad thing releasing 2 separate slots like you did with BerryBurst MAX but if instead, it was 1 slot with 2 versions in it and just a click of a button to switch would make it great.

This way it would help reduce confusion from new players as long it is a bit detailed inside slot when you click a button to switch there would, of course, need to be a "confirm" and "are you sure you wish to switch" etc.

To give an example bit like some slots where you can press a button and activate additional features and pay a bit extra each spin :)  will try to find proper examples but think you get me :)

PS sorry I know not relating to questions for me etc but just wanted to say how amazing and great contributions @pausefisk has given here in this thread I am truly stunned and amazed by his skills.

@Burgles i'm glad you like my suggestions! Let's wish that santa will be generous this christmas :D

To answer your question: My favourite BTG game is Bonanza. Why? Because every spin looks different and has great potensiale - also in the basegame. We have seen a lot of basegame hits 1000x+. The bonus feature is very hard to get, and the feeling when you get when bonus is triggered is a real rush, because you know this can hit some insane good wins.

I totally get your point, because the chance to win 10.000x+ is soo tiny. I guess most players prefere getting 10 times 1000x wins, instead of 1 time 10.000x, right? I also think it depends of what stakes you play at. Personally i play up to €1 and occasionally €2-4 (if i have a large balance to wager). When i play slots like QOR i usually go 0,5€ because i know my balance will most likely drop, but there is still a good chance to get a huge amount of money if you hit a good one - even on low stakes.

In slots like Starburst or other slots with low volatility you need to play at high stakes to get the feeling of winning something. In BTG slots you can win huge without going high stakes. That is what i like about BTG slots.

Ironically enough, my biggest wins in X still comes from NETENT slots, with 3938x/3363x/2500x on Dead or Alive, and even 2130x on BerryBurst Max (!!!), all wins before other providers (see my list in my signature (if enabled?)), like BTG. A few days after i wrote my feedback i actually got a fullscreen wild on BerryBurst Max and got a little "dissapointed" because one fullscreen win "only" gave me 2000x. I guess getting a 6000x win just isnt possible because it requires you to get best symbol all the way during all re-spins to achieve that... Still, my secound best slot win ever!

The difference between BTG and NETENT is that you can hit 1000+ on almost every slot from BTG, while NETENT is "just a few" compared to how many slots you have made. I think the new slot Jumanji is a very good slot with a lot of features where you can trigger up to 4 features  in one bonus feature! It's awesome! Unfortunatly the slot goes into the "wagering slot" category because it's seem so hard to get a fullscreen of wilds there, and if you do it will only give you 500x. Yes, we need some slots to wager on aswell :) but this slot i'd suggest beeing in the higher volatility category.

Well, guess i have to stop now cause i could be babbling endless on all my thoughts :) Props to NETENT and CG for making a competition out of this, becasue it makes you reflect more about slots and stuff :)

I have to agree with @PaaskeDenmark on this one. When i wrote my review i wasn't sure if two slots would be released or not, and i also think this can be a bit confusing, especially for beginners. Everything looks the same, and its hard to spot if the "MAX" logo is there or not, especially if you dont know there exists two versions. Even @LetsGiveItASpin played BerryBurst for some minutes on stream before he noticed he played the wrong version. Mabye if the MAX version had just slightly some differences, like bigger symbols, more detailed symbols, other colors, mabye slot logo was smaller and MAX bigger. Or like @PaaskeDenmark suggested when slot is loaded you can choose go "normal" or go "MAX" with some info whats different. I guess noone has a real answer to this, its hard to predict and i guess that is why NETENT wants some feedback aswell, cause i have a feeling they havent manage to decided 100% themselves either? :)

Either way, MAX-ing up some NETENT slots is a winner in my eyes! Good luck!

 
@Burgles Glad my feedback was of help :)  To answer your question, I would say around the 300 spins for a bonus on average would be suitable for a MAX game, compared to the average 1/150 or so for normal games. BTG has done well with many of their games, Bonanza and DHV for example, as they have interesting and hard to get bonuses with high average win, but also HUGE potential in the basegame ( I once hit for over 2450x bet on DHV basegame, almost as big as my biggest win multiplier ever, which was 2700x on Dead or Alive).

I am not a pro at this photoshopping etc but still hope you guys like it. I messed up with background wanted to try and get some kind of summer theme etc but instead made most attention on the Berries :P

Design, Graphics and symbols

At first sight, the overall gameboard is very nice and pleasant for the eye. The background is very colourful, and I really like the gradient colour palette they have used. The spin panel is transparent which I think makes the gameboard “clean” and doesn’t take too much focus. This is something I want to see more often.

All the symbols are made in a “cartoon” like way (means they does not look to realistic) and I think that fits the slot very nice. I also like that the symbols are in constantly motion, it makes the slot lively.

When you get a win, symbols get expanded and make some waves with some really nice graphics added to it. When you hit a wild, it expands fast. No extra teasing just for a wild, good! I noticed that the two BerryBurst Max logos at the sides goes away, and in comes a big BerryBurst Max logo in the background when you get an expanded wild. Might this be the sign of the MAX feature?

Sound fx and music

I love the music! It has such a nice build-up from the start. If I close my eyes I imagine being at the pool, I can feel the fresh hot breeze, the music plays in the background coming from the pool bar, while taking a sip of my margarita drink :) I feel the music is varied and last long enough for not to get tired of it. Many slots have a short looping music, but I feel this is one of the best regarding playtime.

When you get a (SUPER) MEGA WIN the music get’s an extra nice loop to it, depending on how big the win is, the loops go further and cooler! Excellent!

The sound fx is a bit too loud compared to the music. When you get a win, I feel the sound is 100% more volume than the music, a bit too much in my opinion. The “bubble sound” when symbols stops really don’t make much sense in the theme. Are the berries in the water, if so, why? Another sound would be better, and not that high volume. I think it ruining the nice music with all that bubble sound, especially if you use quickplay!

Gameplay

I think BerryBurst Max is an easy slot to understand how works. You don’t need to learn what lines pays. All you need to know is that you need 5 symbols to connect. There are not tons of symbols, so is easy to distinguish the different symbols (I have to add this because some slots have symbols that is hard spot the difference, like coins in grey, bronze, silver and gold).

The spinning is just perfect regarding the speed. I feel there is no need to use the quickspin setting on this slot. Perfect!

The Re-spin feature when getting a wild is easy to understand, and basically the same as in Starburst. If you hit a new wild, you get one more spin, and this is obviously the most exciting about this slot. At the time I’ve played, I feel there is a good chance of hitting the 2nd and 3rd wild which will give you some good wins, depending on the wilds are connecting and if you have some premium symbols added to them. What you are looking for, and here is where BerryBurst Max is getting exciting, is the 4th or even 5th wild reel, which will give you a massive win. Even 4 wild reels with the re-spin should give you some huge bananas :)

Features

Unfortunately, the only feature is the re-spin function when you hit a wild. Even though it can lead to massive wins I feel the slot is lacking features.

Conclusion

I think the music and partially the graphics saves this slot. I am very certain I will drop by this slot occasionally, thanks to the music, but most for the potential of getting a dream hit up to 6000 times your bananas. We have been waiting a long time for another high volatile slot from NetEnt, and finally it’s here. When that is said, I don’t think this was the kind of slot everyone called for. Unless it had one extra feature you can read more about under “my suggestions” :)

If this had the same volatility as starburst, I’d still swap it for Starburst, but how often would that be? :)

My suggestions

Everyone loves slots with free spins! There could be scatters with free-spins feature with sticky wild reels when they hit. It’s like re-spins but you have 10 spins to collect wild reels. And why not: if you get 3 scatters with a wild symbol the trigger spin, keep the wild for the free-spins for a better start :)

Another feature could be triggered when getting 3 wild reels in base game re-spin feature, you are rewarded with 10 free spins with those 3 wilds in there for the free spins, giving you almost guaranteed wins, mega wins and even super mega wins. How awesome would that be? A feeling that can be compared to hitting a wild line in Dead or Alive, you know every rest of the spins is going to be massive! Best feeling for a slot player!
