Mobile at ~58% of Online GGR, Projected to Reach ~67% by 2029

Europe’s online gambling market has entered a clearly mobile-first phase. Based on the latest figures from EGBA and H2 Gambling Capital, mobile devices accounted for approximately 58% of online gross gaming revenue (GGR) in 2024, and this share is projected to rise to around 67% by 2029. In other words, close to seven in ten euros wagered online in Europe are expected to be placed via mobile devices within the next few years.

CasinoGrounds has compiled an independent, data-driven report using publicly available regulator data, EGBA member statistics and long-term forecasts from H2 Gambling Capital. The report looks at how mobile usage, regulation, technology and safer-gambling tools are reshaping the European online casino landscape.

Key Highlights from the Report

  • Mobile now dominates online GGR: Mobile’s share of online gambling revenue has increased from 51% in 2019 to ~58% in 2024, with forecasts pointing toward ~67% by 2029.
  • Online accounts for ~40% of all gambling in Europe: Online GGR reached about €47.9 billion in 2024, representing roughly 39–40% of total European gambling revenue.
  • Record use of safer-gambling tools: Around 65% of players with EGBA member operators used at least one safer-gambling tool in 2024, with uptake expected to approach 70% in the near term.
  • Nordic markets lead digital adoption: Sweden, Finland and Denmark are among the most digital markets in Europe, with ~68% of gambling revenue generated online and particularly strong mobile usage.
  • Germany lags behind: Germany’s online share is still around 22.6% of total gambling, reflecting stricter regulations on stakes, spin times and monthly deposit limits.
  • 5G, payments and new formats drive growth: Expanded 5G coverage, widespread use of mobile wallets, and innovation in live casino and immersive formats (including VR pilots) all contribute to the continued shift toward mobile.
