Why RTP matters

I've seen a lot ask in stream chats about why does RTP matter and a few think it doesn't. I saw someone make an excellent example of how it does matter (credit to dazza_g for allowing me to use his images) and thought I'd share especially since most providers now offer different RTP versions for their slots. So below is an example of the different versions you can get for slots by light and wonder;

As you can see with the highest RTP for this slot you'll get 2476 spins for an investment of £100 at £1 a spin. See below;

Now check the difference with the lowest RTP;

762 spins for the same values!! Crazy when you look at it this way right. 87% is a disgrace if you ask me, way lower than any land based slot I've seen by a mile!

Most providers offer 3 different rtp’s for every slot they make, mainly 92-94-96. It’s up to each operator to choose which they want. Nothing new here. 

 
Rather than nonsense like removing autospins, organisations like the Gambling Commision should be cracking down on games with the same name and the same graphics that in the short term seem to play the same except for a numerical value buried in their help file. All slots that share a name with a higher RTP version should have to have a starting banner like "this is not the highest RTP version of "Books and Bulls". This pays 92% whereas some versions pay 96%"

I wouldn't ban low RTP slots but they should be more transparent.

 
Of course RTP matters, 

but at the same time it is hugely overrated when it comes to choosing which slots to play in specific circumstances.
Specifically when playing with a bonus or for a slots tourney, variance trumps RTP every time.

 Incase the 'nothing new here', is aimed at this thread, the thread is about the massive difference between high and low RTP, not that slots have different versions...

 
Even Hampus+Kim have been caught out by low RTP. I remember at least once that chat pointed out they were playing at 88% or 90% at their current casino rather than the 96% that thought they were on. Can't remember which slot and casino it was though or whether it was Kim, Hampus or both. 

 
@IguanaBob To be fair every site nowadays does where I am. They don't have much of a choice especially when the sites they play on are good legit sites. We just have to suck it up 

 
RTP matters indeed if you play a lot on the same slot.

If you just play every now and then, a lot of other factors matter too (balance/betsize and volatility). The numbers in the example 96% and 87% are also extremes. If a slot gives 94% on the one casino and 92% on the other I dont give a sh*t.

 
This is interesting to me because I never really thought about it but I do feel luckier on some casinos than others when it comes to certain slots. However I didn't know it can get as low as 88% RTP. I'm assuming there's no real database for what RTP is at what casino for each slot? Do we just have to be careful to double check wherever we play or do you think in the grand scheme of things it won't affect winnings?

Check the slot rules/information where every slot has to provide the RTP. Some sites even display it before you enter the slot. Yes you do indeed get slots nowadays as low as 88% and I've seen some playngo go as low as this. It definitely affects playing low RTP slot in the long run if you check the 2 examples in the first post where I have top RTP v low RTP for the same amount of money/spins

 
Good breakdown and nice of you to make people aware of RTP, advising them always to check it before going balls deep in a slot

 
I see some everyday streamers playing even on 88% RTP on UK Casinos, and they call themselves pro gamblers 😂 I am sure they don't even know how RTP works, when they losing for weeks they keep crying slots are bad

everyone talks about game RTP but no one talks about bonus RTP %... like BTG bonus RTP is under 15% RTP DOA2 bonus RTP is like 10%

 
Yeah, seeing people ignore RTP while chasing losses is wild kind of like overlooking the fine-print details that actually shape the whole experience, the same way pet relocation services uk only work smoothly when you understand what’s really going on behind the scenes. Bonus RTP being that low just shows how much more there is to the numbers than people think.
