Hi there I would like to know if its legal for a casino to perform a credit check on a player. From my understanding due to the data protection act its not legal unless your applying for credit. Would anyone confirm this thanks

There are different levels of credit checks. Soft search and hard search.

I get casinos showing up on my report as a soft search now and then.

Don't think they can see your precise history, just an overview as to whether you have been declared bankrupt or have CCJs against your name.

I think it’s legal. I remember it used to appear within terms and conditions on casino sites.

I used to see soft searches often when I was gambling but this was before these data protection laws came into force.

Yeah I thought once the new laws came in soft searches unless lending wasnt a thing? Considered a miss use of data handling but I could be wrong. Any experts in the house ? Cheers for the reply guys

No worries.

Couple of threads on google point out it’s sometimes used to check your identity to prevent fraud and verify you.

Again not an expert😁

Videoslots made a full credit check on me without notice 1 year ago, but after consulting UC who provided the information to Videoslots they removed it from my history of checks, still Videoslots got what they wanted.  I think they were informed by UC they are not allowed to do it like that again. Their communication could not be shared with me.
