Video Slot Review - Vikings go to Hell - Yggdrasil
The Vikings have been to the Wild and they have gone Berzerk; now, the Vikings go to Hell to face new adventures and challenges. What will they have to overcome to come out victorious this time? The greatest evil of all himself, Lucifer!
Contrary to the other two Vikings go games, Vikings go to Hell by Yggdrasil has some nice adjustments that players will be happy with. Starting with variance, this slot game has a high variance as opposed to the medium one that the other two had.
Vikings go to Hell has a 96.1% RTP, five reels, four rows and 25 pay lines. Fights for sticky wilds will happen both in Free Spins and in the base game and the treasure chest will appear more often.
Design and Symbols
The four Vikings are back for vengeance and just like always, they make up the higher paying symbols.
The highest paying symbol of all is the red Viking. The lower paying symbols are the four shields, with the green and blue shields making up the lowest paying symbols.
The music of the slot game reminds us of an epic song, kind of like the Game of Thrones soundtrack, but with some differences in tone and bass. In this Vikings game, you won’t see any boats in the background; what you will see are fiery rocks at the bottom. This is very fitting within the Hell theme of fire and lava.
Luckily for us, Vikings go to Hell is brimming with special features waiting to be activated. Here, sticky wilds are available both in the base game and the free spins round. The free spins round is split into two levels and can be activated in three ways.
Whenever two scatters show up on your reels, the Vikings present must fight a demon. If any Viking wins, you are awarded a re-spin. If another two scatters pop up during the re-spin, the feature is re-triggered. The respin feature stops when scatters stop showing up on your reels.
Free Spin Rounds
Free Spins can be activated:
- With the Treasure Chest that lands on reel 5
- Through three free-spin activating scatters showing up anywhere on your reel
- With the Berzerk Free Spins Mode
During the Free Spins round, all Viking symbols must fight a demon. If they win, they will turn into a sticky wild and remain on your reel for the rest of the free spins.
Each Viking that wins against the demon will have one point added to their rage meter.
Every free spins feature has two levels.
To go from level one to level two, one of the Vikings must defeat the demon a total of three rounds. Once this is done, the lord of chains is defeated, and the player moves on to level two.
In level two, the player receives an additional seven spins. At the end of each level 2 spin, one Viking is chosen to fight Lucifer. If they succeed, they turn into a sticky wild. To defeat Lucifir, a Viking must defeat him at the end of at least three rounds. Once he is defeated, all Vikings turn into wilds for the remaining free spins, and a 3x multiplier is applied to the rest of the winnings as well.
The Treasure Chest
During both the base game and the free spins round, a treasure chest may land on reel 5 and give you a bonus game. You will not know what you will get, but it can be any of the following:
- Epic Tablet in Base Game: will award you 12 or 16 Free spins, 400-1200 coins
- Good Tablet in Base Game: seven Free Spins, 30 point rage boost for one Viking, 150-300 coins.
- Epic Tablet in Free Spins: three extra spins, one sticky wild Reel
- Good Tablet in Free Spins: two extra spins, two random sticky wilds.
Berzerk Free Spins Mode
If a Viking gathers 100 rage points, you are awarded seven berzerk free spins. Whenever that Viking shows up on your reel, he will definitely win against the demon. If you manage to go to level two, berzerk mode will still be on during this round. During this round, if the berzerk Viking wins, no rage points will be added to their meter.
Our thoughts on Vikings go to Hell
From all the ‘Vikings go’ games, this was definitely our favourite. Why? It has high variance, the special features are insane and it was the most entertaining one of three so far. We really like the potential of sticky symbols and re-spins in the base game. It was also the most adventurous out of all three. With a max bet, the wins are out of this world, especially during the free spins round. We gave Vikings go to Hell quite a number of spins, but never got to the Berzerk Free Spins Mode, so make sure to record your spins and post it on our forum.
