Released on 23rd December 2019, Mighty Griffin Megaways is yet another foray into the Megaways world from Blueprint Gaming, the London-based provider who are by far the most prodigious supplier of the Big Time Gaming developed multi-payline game engine. We’re back in fantasy-land again with this slot themed around the Mighty Griffin. The Griffin is a mythical half-lion half-eagle, depicted throughout the ages and in numerous civilisations, as a majestic and powerful beast. Let’s see whether or not Mighty Griffin Megaways is a majestic and powerful slot…
Mighty Griffin uses the most popular Megaways set up with 6 vertical reels with a single horizontal reel directly above vertical reels 2-5. Each reel holds between 2-7 symbols (apart from the horizontal reel which forms part of reels 2-5) per spin. Combinations of 3 or more matching symbols on adjacent reels from the leftmost reel pay. The maximum number of ways to win, if each reel spins in 7 symbols is therefore 117,649. A cascading symbol with reaction wins mechanic is in operation for both the base and bonus games. If you’re unfamiliar with that set-up, a more detailed explanation is provided in the Special Features section.
This slot comes with a relative abundance of features including transforming Mystery Symbols, a feature buy bonus, a free spins round with unlimited win multipliers and a gamble option, and also a randomly activated progressive jackpot feature. Big wins are almost all confined to the free spins round, although a big progressive jackpot win is of course possible.
Mighty Griffin Megaways has an RTP in the main game of 95.46%, with an additional 0.38% given over to the Jackpot feature, and a further 0.11% attributed to the Jackpot reserve. You can play this slot from €0.10 to €10 a spin.

Design & Symbols
The scene behind the action looks like it is straight out of a historic fairytale book. From high on a hilltop you can see green fields below. To the right rocky outcrops push high up into the sky, with the sun penetrating through a light cloud cover. To the right, a majestic medieval hilltop castle stands proud, with plenty of turrets and flags somewhat resembling Cinderella Castle at Disney World. The setting makes sense of the Griffin was possibly at the peak of its folklore powers during medieval times, with its combination of Lion (King of the Jungle) and Eagle (King of the Skies) singling it out as the most worthy of mythical beasts. It was also believed to be a guardian of priceless treasures.
The reel set takes up most of the screen and configuration-wise it resembles many other Megaways slots (think Bonanza, Diamond Mine etc). The reels are framed in gold with detailing in the top corners. Golden Wings form part of the frame along the length of reels 1 and 6. The symbols sit on translucent reels. The large golden Griffin spin button sits about half-way up the screen, directly to the right of the gameboard. The soundtrack is suitably epic and magical.
Low value symbols are the standard playing card values 9-A. High value symbols include a golden feather on a purple cushion, a gold ring, a golden crown, and a golden griffin. The griffin is the highest paying symbol, with 6 symbols on adjacent rows earning 50x the bet size. The Mystery Symbol is a dazzling blue/white orb, the wilds (which only land on the horizontal top reel) is a book of spells, and the scatter is a golden griffin on a blue background, framed in gold.

Cascading Symbols with Reaction Wins
When a win lands, the symbols making up the win disappear and new symbols cascade into their place. A new win created by the cascade repeats the cycle which continues to repeat until no new win is created. These are known as ‘reaction wins’. Cascading symbols with reaction wins are the standard format in both the base and bonus games.
The Mystery Symbol often lands in abundance across the reels and transforms into a random regular symbol at the completion of the spin thus creating more opportunities for a winning spin. Mystery Symbols land in both the base game and during free spins.
3 or more scatters trigger the Golden Streak feature. All other symbols are removed from the reels and each scatter is replaced with a number of free spins between 1 and 5. This is when the Golden Streak takes place. The scatters remain on the screen while the remainder of the reels spin. There are only blanks or scatters on the reels. A landing scatter adds between 1 and 5 free spins to the total already accrued and awards another spin. A non-winning spin (one where no scatter lands) ends the streak. Triggering the Golden Streak with 3 scatters awards just the one streak. Triggering with 4 or 5+ scatters awards 3 Golden Streaks, giving you more chances to pick up additional free spins.
The Gamble Feature is offered after the Golden Streak feature has come to an end. You are taken to a new screen with a wheel of fortune where you are given the option to spin for 1, 2, or 3 more Golden Streaks. The wheel is split into green and red sections where green wins and red loses. The odds of losing increase the more Streaks you gamble for. A gamble for just one streak starts with the odds well in your favour, indicated by the % of the wheel which is green being considerably larger than the % which is red. That red % increases when gambling for 2 or 3 streaks. Of course, you can just take your initially acquired spins and head straight to free spins. Lose the gamble and you lose ALL your free spins so beware!
Legend Free Spins with Unlimited Win Multiplier
The cascading symbols with reaction wins play out during the bonus round only this time with each win a win multiplier is added. The multiplier doesn’t reset when the cascading win streak ends. Each subsequent win adds to the win multiplier until the free spins are complete. During the free spins round the griffin scatter symbols only appear on the horizontal top reel. 3 or 4 scatters landing during free spins adds an additional 5 or 10 free spins, respectively.
Legend Free Spins Bonus Bet
Only available in some casinos, and never to UK players, Mighty Griffin Megaways also offers the ‘Legend Free Spins Bonus Bet’, a feature buy button where players can pay 75x their chosen stake to guarantee 3 scatters to activate the Golden Streak Feature.
Jackpot King Progressive Jackpots
To the right of the reel set is a gold framed Jackpot meter which shows the totals of three progressive jackpots. This feature randomly triggers on any spin and takes you to a new reel set of red velvet and golden crowns. The 5x4 reel set only contains crowns or jewels. The goal is to collect 15 crowns to take you to the Wheel King feature. Each crown moves you one step up the ladder, and each step earns a cash prize with an increasing bet multiplier.
If less than 15 crowns are collected, you must choose from 4 items of treasure which reveal either a ‘COLLECT’ sign or a ‘SUPER SPIN’ sign. The COLLECT sign pays out the bet multiplier earned from the number of crowns landed and the round ends. The SUPER SPIN sign spins the reels again. This continues until either the Wheel King is reached at 15 crowns, or the COLLECT sign is chosen. The Wheel King takes place on a tombola type which contains big bet multipliers ranging from 25x to 1,000x, as well as the 3 progressive Jackpots (Regal Pot, Royal Pot, and Jackpot King).
Our Thoughts on Mighty Griffin Megaways
There is certainly a lot going on in Mighty Griffin Megaways, so this is definitely not a boring game. Nor, however, does it contain anything new. The eagle (or maybe Griffin?) eyed among you might have noticed that it is essentially a clone of another Blueprint game, Wolf Legend Megaways, the game which introduced us to the Golden Streak and gamble features.
The addition of the Jackpot King does offer something different, but it’s a side feature many could do without as it serves to lower the RTP of the main game. If you like Megaways slots but aren’t a fan of Progressive Jackpots, then there would be literally zero point in playing this over Wolf Legend. Other than that criticism this is another pretty Megaways slot with tons of potential and some enjoyable features, albeit ones we’ve all seen before.
