Book of Shadow by Nolimit City released on 04.08.2020 is a 5-reel & 5-row online slot with 50 paylines and a 96.19% RTP. This is a occult-themed game offering players a max win of up to 30338x their stake. Book of Shadow can be played on all devices from €0.2 to €100 per spin and is considered a high volatility game.
- Novel clone of Book of Ra
- Win up to 30,338x
- Extremely volatile
As the title suggests, Book of Shadows is Nolimit City’s first stab as a ‘Book of Ra’ clone; something, it would seem, that every provider has to do at some point or another. Nolimit City, however, like to do things a bit differently, even when they’re doing things the same. The obligatory expanding symbols free spins round are joined by additional rows and locking reels, both available for purchase. Extremely volatile, this Wiccan themed slot is capable of delivering a huge 30,338x the bet size.
Where to play
How to Win Big in Book of Shadows – Free Spins
Landing 3 or more Book scatters triggers 10 free spins*. Prior to the spins the Book of Shadows (the sacred tome of the Wiccan religion) opens and randomly selects a regular symbol to become a special expanding symbol. The chosen symbol expands to cover the entire reel if it helps to form a winning combo. Expanding symbols do not need to be on adjacent rows to form winning combos. For example, if the expanding symbol lands on reels 2, 3, and 5, the win is paid as though the first three reels are filled with that symbol. If you don’t like your chosen expanding symbol, you have one opportunity to swap it. Landing 3 or more scatters during the bonus round fully retriggers free spins, although the expanding symbol remains constant.
When playing with 3 or 4 rows, you can sacrifice spins to unlock more rows before the free spins begin.
- Shadow Rows
- Lucky Locks
- 50/50 Gamble
- Wheel of Bonus
- Bonus Buy
Nolimit City has named the slot’s rows ‘Shadow Rows’, and the default game plays on a regular 5x3 reels set. However, for 1.5x or 2x the bet size, 1 or 2 additional rows are added from beneath the shadows. The increased board size increases the chances to win, and also very marginally increases the RTP from 96.01% to 96.07% and 96.19%. Lucky Locks are akin to Microgaming’s Hyperspins, whereby, for a price, reels can be locked in place for the next spin. The cost is proportional to the likelihood of the locked reel assisting a win – the bigger the potential win, the higher the cost to lock the reel.
All wins can be gambled on the turn of a card. Gamble double or nothing on choosing red or black as the colour of the next playing card to be turned over. Wins from both the base game and free spins may be gambled up to 5 times. An alternate gambling option is the Wheel of Bonus, previously seen in Immortal Fruits. Gamble any win on the Wheel of Bonus for a chance to enter the free spins bonus round. The bigger the win gambled, the bigger the chance of success. If you even want to wait for a win to take a punt at getting to the free spins, this slot also has a bonus buy option. For 60x, 90x, or 120x your bet size you can buy straight into free spins with 3, 4, or 5 Shadow Rows in play.
Please note that bonus buys, and the Wheel of Bonus are not available in some jurisdictions.
Look and Feel of Book of Shadows
It may be something of a clone, but Book of Shadows is quite clearly a Nolimit City game with its edgy cartoon depictions of occult characters and surroundings. It is set in a creepy forest at night with animated black cats and burning embers rising from the ground. The only colour comes from the blood red low value symbols and the five high value character symbols. Everything else is in shades of black and white, giving the game a cinematic quality. This is by far the most impressive adaptation of Book of Ra I’ve ever seen. The ability to significantly change the gameplay via the Shadow Rows and Lucky Locks is a genius touch. Also, the max win is multiple times higher than any other clone on the market, giving it huge appeal to variance players.
It’s also nice to get away from the deserts of Egypt and Anubis, Scarabs, and Ankhs. Lows are playing card values 10-A while the highs are potions, butterflies, rams, cats, and a young Wiccan witch. The Book of Shadows is both the scatter and the wild. See all symbols and their values below (based on a €1 bet).
For those who are able to use them, the Wheel of Bonus and Bonus Buy options also give this game a little more scope than your regular book clone. This is another superb slot from Nolimit City who are, for my money, the outstanding provider of 2020 thus far.
