All Star Knockout Slot
The latest slot release from the YGS Masters Programme comes from fledgeling UK developer Northern Lights. All Star Knockout is another slot to go down the classic fruity route, but does it have enough substance to rise above standard ‘classic fruity’ mediocrity?
All Star Knockout has a 5x4 reel set with 20 fixed paylines and comes with a standard RTP of 96.09%. Northern Lights have produced a medium/high variance slot with wins up to 4,500x the bet size possible.
Although not overflowing with extras it does come with a random base game ‘win spin’ feature as well as a unique free spins round. The free spins round can repeat regularly, and this is where the biggest wins are likely to be found.
You can play All Star Knockout from 11/03/2020 at participating casinos from €0.10 to €100 a spin.
Design & Symbols
The look and feel of this slot are not exactly awe-inspiring, in fact, it looks incredibly dated. Of course, a classic fruity does have a little more license than most new slots to go ‘retro’ so I won’t bash the design too much. The gameboard is a standard 5x4 reel set with fruit symbols on black reels. Below the reel set is 8 Star Meters, one for each symbol. Multitudes of stars can be seen emerging from behind the gameboard which push out across the blue background towards the edge of the screen. The soundtrack is quite typical of quite a few recent classic fruity slots i.e. very high energy, and very synth-heavy.
Low value symbols are lemons, plums, oranges, and cherries. High value symbols are blue sevens, white sevens, red sevens, and a KO symbol. The KO symbol is the most valuable with 5 on a payline awarding 5x the bet size. The only other symbols are gold stars which ultimately trigger the game’s main bonus, the free spins rounds.

Win Spin Respin
Win Spin Respin is a random bonus which can appear after any losing spin. As the title of the bonus suggests, a respin is granted which is guaranteed to land a win. Respins continue until there is a non-winning spin.
All Star Knockout Bonus
8 meters sit beneath the main reel set, each containing spaces for 5 stars, and each one representing one of the regular symbols. At the start of a game or at any point when there are no stars in any of the meters, 12 stars are awarded at random across the meters. Throughout the play, gold stars which land are randomly assigned to one of the 8 meters. The All Star Knockout Bonus is awarded when one or more of the meters are filled. 5 free spins are awarded for the first meter to be filled. Any further meters filled during free spins add another 2 free spins to the player’s total. Also, when a meter is filled, the symbol it represents is removed from the board. Furthermore, prior to the start of the free spins, a random win multiplier between 2x and 5x is chosen. This win multiplier is applied to every win during the bonus round.
The Gamble Feature has similarities to a ‘buy-a-bonus’ feature, although by taking it on a player is not guaranteed entry into the All Star Knockout Bonus. There are 3 levels of wager, each awarding more stars and a better start to the free spins round than the other. The price of the wagers is dependent on the current bet level and number of stars already on the meters. The gamble takes the form of a wheel of fortune with red and green slices 50/50. Landing on green guarantees entry to the All Star Knockout Bonus, while landing on red results in losing your entire wager.
Low Stars Bonus
If only 1-4 stars in total are filled across the meters the next spin activates the ‘Low Stars Bonus’ which awards a respin with stars to fill the award board.
Our Thoughts on All Star Knockout
Considering my first reaction to seeing All Star Knockout was to be monumentally depressed that I had to review it, I am extremely impressed that I’ve come away from the playing experience having enjoyed myself.
If ever there were a slot not to be judged by outward appearances, then it’s this one. I’m not going to go overboard and say that this is a world-beater of a slot, but for all it’s simplicity it offers a unique take on free spins, has some great potential, and has enough going on to keep a punter interested. I liked that the free spins were not too taxing to trigger. I also liked that with each new meter filled a symbol was removed from the board, making all subsequent spins that little bit more likely to reap a reward. The Gamble Feature offers the gamblers among us to have an even money flutter with a decent feature awaiting the successful punter.
I doubt All Star Knockout will be anywhere near anyone’s top slots of 2020 list, but it is a fun game with a lot to offer, and way better than most classic fruity slots in this reviewer’s humble opinion.
