Lack of World Cup Build-Up

For the past few weeks, the lack of build-up around the World Cup has been really puzzling me - i live in England and normally the month before the tournament everywhere is saturated with World Cup stuff, but this time around I've barely seen any promotional items, food/drink tie-ins or TV advertising, etc at all.

 

I had a Google to see if this was true round the rest of the country (and not just me being a social hermit!), and found these 2 British articles which thought I'd link, as interesting to see some reasons why it is such a low key build-up.
