2 week wage gone in 8 hours.

This isn't the first time I've done this...not even the tenth...

Got paid at 2am GMT. It's now about 11am, I have work in an hour and I haven't slept a wink and practically my entire wage is gone (except £30 that I withdrew when I had a sensible moment).

I've known for a long time I've had a gambling problem, but it's hit hard over the last few months. I had my biggest ever win a few months back on LeoVegas (around £5k). I went to withdraw £4k and was asked to verify my ID. My passport expired years ago and I never got it renewed so I stupidly decided to play on with the money and see if I could win more until I could get a new passport. Ended up doing ridiculous spins and losing the lot. Won £1.5k a few weeks later on another site...reversed the withdrawal and blew it all on roulette. A few weeks ago, I deposited money that I didn't have through Paypal on a third site. Managed to win it back and even made £120 profit...then redeposited everything and lost it all. I'm now in a financial hole at this point and working for nothing. I've taken to selling things in my house just to afford to live. I've completely hit rock bottom.

This morning is the final straw. Blew around £400. There was a point I had broke even and I didn't take the money and run. Feel utterly stupid that I've let it get this bad. I owe Paypal £565 and am paying off 3 separate payday loans that I took out because of my problem. It's my mother's birthday and I have nothing for her. It's my work mate's leaving do tonight and I now can't afford to go. I've completely isolated myself from all my friends. My family doesn't know how bad the problem is and I simply can't tell them no matter how much I want to. I'm just done with it.

I've self excluded and deleted accounts here and there over the past few weeks. I have 2 accounts left that I use and I've set small deposit limits on both for the mean time...they'll be deleted before my next wage comes in in 2 weeks time.

Not sure why I'm posting this to be honest...I think it's more for myself to read back than anything else, just to see how idiotic I've been. The next few months will be spent sorting my life out. I just can't go on like this anymore, it's killing me.

hey firesoul, here if you need a chat, just send me a pm, i used to be bad at gambling but rained it in, maybe i could talk to you and tell you how i got mine under control, try and keep your chin up and admitting it is the hardest thing, and now you have done this so well done on that.

What ever happens sure there are people on here that can be there for you, i feel watching streams help , watch nick and david and even tho you not gambling you own money you can get a buzz of watchin them, take care x

Thanks for the reply mate. I quit smoking 4 months ago and I think that's kinda pushed me towards gambling more (replaced one bad habit with another). I feel as though I can bet on sports and not lose control, but with slots and roulette, I just completely shut off and I go into like an auto spin mode in my brain. To be honest, I find watching some streams makes me want to gamble more, especially ones who do huge bets. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming anyone but myself, but I do think I need to cut out watching certain streamers as I'm far too easily influenced. I've set deposit limits on my accounts now so I definitely can't deposit my entire wage next payday (although I doubt the accounts will even still be open by then). I'm ashamed I've let it get this far, but I'm happy I've finally decided enough is enough and I'm going to sort myself out.

I'm just home from work and going for a nap, but I'll definitely PM you later for a chat. Thanks mate :)

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi mate

The most important thing now is that you got enough money to pay your rent and food. Do chargeback all transactions via credit card since 'you didn't do them' (unauthorized transaction, for VISA that would be Code 83). Additionally, I  Germany you can reverse every debit note ("Lastschrift") for 6 weeks via 2 clicks in online banking. Not sure about UK. Do that if possible. Moreover, you do NOT have to pay your PayPal debt. PayPal does not go to court if the debt is created by gambling transactions. You will, however, not be able to use PayPal again ever (which is good in case of gambling addiction). The casinos you chargeback will block you (also good).
